Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Flint: Youth Development Professional
The mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Flint is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. We provide a building-centered effort to work with and mentor youth of all backgrounds with special concern for those from disadvantaged circumstances. Throughout the history of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Flint, we have been able to provide after-school and summer programming for over 6,000 youth throughout the community.

Primary Function:
Plans, implements, supervises and evaluates activities and programs for youth aged 13-17 within a specific area such as Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyles, and/or Good Character and Citizenship and continually ensures a safe, positive and fun environment.

The Teen Room Youth Development Professional will work with Club Members ages 13-17. They will coordinate teen engagement activities and programs with the Unit Director and Program Coordinators. They will connect with local colleges, universities, and trade skill programs to provide information and resources to Club members. They will also research and create strategies for retention of teen members as part of the Boys & Girls Clubs mission and philosophy. Some activities for teens include but are not limited to: organizing career events, college tours and guest speakers, and includes exploring strategies to engage teens in service-learning projects through Keystone Club and other Boys & Girls Clubs of America programming for teens.

Prepare Youth For Success.

  • Create an environment that facilitates the achievement of stated Youth Development Outcomes.
  • Promote and stimulate program participation for Club members.
  • Maintain a safe and positive environment for the cultivation of character, citizenship, and leadership development.
  • Provide guidance and role modeling to others.
  • Development and Implementation of programs for teen members.
  • Effectively implement and administer programs, services, and activities for drop-in members and visitors.
  • Monitor and evaluate programs, services and activities to ensure safety and quality of programming.
  • Maintain active participant roster for each program.
  • Prepare activity reports
  • Maintain a clean and positive Clubhouse facility.
  • Identify and maintain possible partnerships for the development of the program.

Additional Responsibilities

  • May participate in special programs and/or events such as field trips, etc. outside of scheduled work shift.
  • May chaperone and transport youth in a Club vehicle.
  • May cover other program areas if needed or short-staffed.
  • Conduct general maintenance and cleaning of the Clubhouse and grounds.
  • Report any concerns/issues/potential health risks or hazards concerning the environment, staff, programs, etc.

Relationships

Internal: Maintains contact with supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/instructions.

External: Maintains contact with external community groups, schools, Club members’ parents/guardians and others if required.

Minimum Qualifications:
Must be age 21 or older.
Highschool Diploma or GED
Possess a valid Driver's License
Experience working with teens
Ability to motivate youth and manage behavioral problems.
Ability to plan and implement quality programs for youth.
Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment.
Ability to adapt to changes in the work environment and balance competing demands.
Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision as well as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications:
Current Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED certification or willingness to obtain.
Associate’s degree or higher.
Knowledge of youth development practices.
Knowledge of mental health as it pertains to youth services.

Physical Demands:
Must be able to climb, bend, stoop, and reach.
Must be able to stand or walk for long periods of time.
Must be able to pull, push, or lift up to 25 lbs.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $14.00 per hour
