Description
The Program Specialist – School & Community Outreach is a key representative of Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Memphis (BGCM), responsible for delivering engaging Club programming within schools, community centers, and at public events throughout Shelby County. This role serves to extend BGCM’s mission beyond Club walls by building awareness, creating meaningful connections, and providing positive youth development experiences directly in the community. The Program Specialist will also support the Community Engagement Director at community fairs, events, and outreach initiatives to help strengthen BGCM’s presence and partnerships across the region.
Requirements
Program Delivery in Schools & Community Spaces
- Facilitate high-quality BGCM programs on-site at schools and community centers across Shelby County, focusing on areas such as character development, academic success, healthy lifestyles, and career readiness.
- Adapt programming to fit the needs of each site while maintaining alignment with Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) standards.
- Foster positive relationships with youth, school staff, and community partners to support consistent participation and engagement.
Outreach & Brand Awareness
- Serve as an ambassador of BGCM by promoting the organization’s mission, services, and impact at school visits and public settings.
- Distribute informational materials and assist in recruiting new members, families, and potential volunteers.
- Help identify new outreach opportunities in schools, libraries, community centers, and other youth-serving spaces.
Community Engagement Support
- Partner with the Director of Community Engagement to assist with setup, staffing, and takedown of BGCM booths and tables at fairs, festivals, back-to-school events, and other public gatherings.
- Provide information to families and community members about BGCM Clubs, programs, and enrollment processes.
- Capture stories, photos, and feedback to help share impact with internal teams and external partners (in alignment with BGCM media policies).
Administrative & Reporting Duties
- Track participation data, attendance, and program outcomes from school-based and community sessions.
- Complete timely reports and feedback forms for internal tracking and grant reporting purposes.
- Communicate scheduling needs and site issues to supervisors and support staff for resolution.

Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Education, Youth Development, Social Work, or a related field preferred.
- 1–3 years of experience working directly with youth in educational, nonprofit, or community settings.
- Experience facilitating structured youth programs, activities, or workshops.
- Bilingual candidates (English/Spanish) are encouraged to apply.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with youth and adults.
- High level of energy, creativity, and a passion for youth development.
- Organized, punctual, and able to manage schedules across multiple locations.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with internal teams.
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office and comfort using tablets or laptops for tracking data.

Working Conditions & Requirements:
- Must be able to travel throughout Shelby County regularly; reliable transportation required.
- Occasional evenings and weekends for community events or school programming.
- Must pass a criminal background check and maintain CPR/First Aid certification (training can be provided by BGCM).
