Job Summary:
Provides Academic and Career Planning (ACP), intensive job and post-secondary readiness programming, job search and placement assistance, case management, mentoring, employer engagement, and training/retraining, applicable certifications, and follow-up services to enrolled Brighter Futures members. The Program Manager is responsible for assisting with recruiting and retaining participants and implementing the scheduled programming for required Social Emotional Development, Mentoring, Academic and Career Planning, Post-Secondary Preparation, and Career Development activities. The Program Manager will collaborate with Employ Milwaukee staff, Grad Plus Staff, Club staff, school staff, parent/guardian, employer partners, and other members of the youth support team to provide wraparound services for Brighter Futures members.
Responsibilities:
Manages Brighter Futures program partnerships to conduct occupational skills training and certifications in medical, IT, culinary, banking, real estate, and welding.
• Manages enrollment of Brighter Futures participants enrolled in occupational skills training.
• Communicates effectively and works in conjunction with Employ Milwaukee Career Coordinators and Data Manager and QAS.
• Assists Brighter Futures participants with their academic and career planning, including career and post-secondary decision-making processes, using Career Cruising program.
• Organizes worksite tours to refer students to career exploration, job shadowing, and college tours including attending the annual Washington DC trip (when funding is available).
• Supervises AmeriCorps staff, tutors, and/or drivers and coordinates their schedule.
• Develops and maintains contacts with private sector businesses, community organizations, and educational institutions for the purpose of outreach, recruitment, and positive public relations/support.
• Presents information regarding youth programs and services to community groups and organizations.
• Assesses participant's employment and education needs and keeps individualized academic and career plans up to date.
• Assists Brighter Futures members in identifying and addressing barriers to employment, and programming and refers services within the one-stop system as appropriate, or to community resources as necessary.
• Matches job skills with applicant qualifications; refers qualified applicants to employers and conducts necessary follow-up when applicants are placed in positions.
• May refer youth to other appropriate Youth Service Providers in the Region for additional assistance.
• Provides job development and appropriate job referrals to Brighter Futures youth customers.
• Conducts follow-up services with customers regarding their job search and works in conjunction with Grad Plus staff for enrollment in post-secondary education/training.
• Upkeep daily, and weekly attendance into ETO, TransAct & WIG databases
• Develops, implements, and evaluates Career Development related quality programming and activities to achieve specific goals and outcome measurements.
• Develops and maintains a positive climate and environment with program space.
• Tracks member participation in assigned program areas and documents results and progress of members.
• Communicates via phone calls, emails, and texts to youth workers for reminders of paperwork, bank account set up and mandatory meetings.
• Communicates the philosophy, objectives, standards, and programs of the Boys & Girls Club, through all methods available, to members, their parents, and the public.
• Implements and participates in programs, projects, and special events within Career Development.
• Provides written documentation of program implementation and evaluation.
• Generate weekly, or monthly reports as requested.
• Must participate in required training by the Club, County, State, and/or funders.
In partnership with Program Coordinators, oversee Brighter Futures Youth Council
Education Requirements:
Bachelor's degree required. Preferred emphasis in the areas of Social Work or education
Experience Requirements:
• At least 2 years of non-profit youth programming experience including responsibility for program development, implementation, and management working with urban youth.
• At least 2 years of experience directly related to issues affecting urban high school-aged youth and youth programming. Emphasis on engaging youth in out-of-school time career development, postsecondary preparation, social-emotional learning, and academic-focused support programs.
• Proven experience in motivating and accomplishing work through others, including teammates and peers as well as a degree of successful program partnership creation and maintenance.
• Proven success in developing partnerships with community organizations, local businesses, neighborhood groups, and supporters.
Skills:
• High level of knowledge of various career fields, related post-secondary, or trade training, and hands-on experiential programming opportunities.
• Highly organized with attention to detail.
• Ability to relate effectively with diverse populations.
• Experience in partnership development, internal customer service, leading through service, and providing resources to others.
• High level of computer literacy and ability to utilize Excel and Access applications effectively for fiscal and other analysis and planning. Ability to learn and utilize new technologies and apply technology to programmatic and management applications critical. Familiarity and Ability to facilitate Career Cruising.
• Ability to create and maintain high-level community profile. Proven ability to gamer support and request of peers and colleagues and interact effectively with individual stakeholders in a variety of roles.
• Must have a valid WI driver's license, good driving record, and meet state-required automobile insurance minimums.
