The Senior Accountant is responsible for ensuring compliance with accounting standards, internal controls, and procurement procedures. This role includes overseeing financial reporting and planning, ensuring all activities and fund transactions comply with GAAP, and managing grant accounting compliance. The position also supports the management of contracts, oversees reporting to funders, and ensures accurate invoicing and tracking of deliverables. The Senior Accountant works closely with the Sr. Director of Grant Management to support audits of grant-related activities, including reconciling general ledger entries. Additionally, the role requires preparing and documenting journal entries, ensuring accurate account balances, and compliance with all necessary reporting requirements
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES
Accounting Compliance:
- Monitor and ensure compliance with internal control and procurement procedures and procedures to meet internal and external requirements
- Facilitate proper accounting for all activities and fund transactions, ensuring compliance with GAAP
- Grant Accounting Compliance
Financial Reporting and Planning:
- Support managing contracts and overseeing reporting to funders of all types and other administrative requirements.
- Periodic Invoicing and Tracking of Deliverable Completion
Audit:
- Support the Sr. Director of Grant Management in auditing all grant-related activities between grant process and general ledger entry and reconciliation
- Grant Monitoring and Audit Support
Journal Entries:
- Accountable for preparing journal entries as needed after reconciling and noting necessary changes to account balances
- Provide journal entries and necessary documentation to Sr. Director of Accounting
- Accountable for troubleshooting and resolving issues
Administrative Compliance:
- Complete all required reports and administrative duties on time.
- Collect and manage required data and internal and external reporting. Ensure the accuracy of data and reporting.
- Comply with all administrative policies and procedures, processes and controls
- Accountable for accurate and timely paperwork, reports, and data entry
- Accountable for utilizing all BGCGTC communication tools regularly and effectively
Relationships:
- Be a positive role model
- Maintain emotional control and make good decisions under pressure
- Represent the Boys & Girls Club in a positive manner
- Communicate with Internal and External Stakeholders
- Support Sr. Director of Grant Management
Facility & Safety:
- Accountable for adherence to all organizational health and safety policies and implementation of all safety practices and procedures at assigned work location(s)
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect members, staff, equipment, materials, and facilities. Abide by facility maintenance protocols and procedures to ensure compliance
- Accountable for reporting incidents and completing documentation within the required timeline
Attendance:
- Regular attendance is required; arrive on time, work the required hours/shift, and leave at the scheduled time

Requirements
Education and Work Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting with 2 years of experience preferred OR Associate Degree with 4 years of experience
- Prior experience in a not-for-profit organization (preferred)
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ability to work regular business hours
- Ability to analyze financial data and prepare reconciliation reports
- Ability to convey technical information in a clear and understandable way to a manager
- Working knowledge of all phases of the accounting cycle
- Knowledge and experience with fund accounting
- Ability to calculate, post, and manage accounting figures, journal entries, and financial records
- Ability to multitask and prioritize multiple high-priority projects simultaneously
- Ability to identify and correct financial discrepancies
- Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills; good judgment
- Effective organizational skills; detail-oriented
- Excellent problem-solving skills and good judgment
- Knowledge of intermediate accounting principles and procedures
- Advanced knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office, especially Excel and using formulas
- Must be able to pass agency background screens and drug screen at any time
- Ability to process payroll accurately and timely
- Create Accounts Receivable invoices and accurately match payments
Preferred Qualifications:
- Understanding of auditing numbers and reports
- Understanding of federal and state financial regulations
- Understanding of GAAP
- Grant Accounting
- Knowledge or experience with grants and/or contracts
- Understanding of not-for-profit accounting
- Experience with various automated accounting software and/or databases
Salary & Benefits:
- Starting pay: $70,000 yearly (Exempt)
