Description
Primary Function: The Sports League Coordinator will help implement the Atlanta Falcons Fitness Zone program grant pertaining to youth sports leagues/teams and supervise other athletic programs.
Key Roles (Essential Job Responsibilities):
Leadership
- Supervise coaches, players, scorekeepers & referees.
- Perform all necessary administrative responsibilities, including but not limited to phone calls, emails, recruitment of new participants, and other program-related duties.
- Perform work on weekends and evenings as needed to meet applicable deadlines or scheduling needs.
- Coordinate gym use and rentals
- Ensures all athletic environments are safe and secure while having proper supervision.
- Oversees proper record keeping and reporting for sports equipment and league information.
Strategic Planning
- Create, organize, and supervise seasonal youth league programs; recruit players and coaches; train coaches; officiate games, coordinate events, order equipment and uniforms; schedule games/practices as needed, etc.
- Evaluate available recreation/sports opportunities for school-age youth, develop and implement new leagues and or classes to fill gaps.
- Manage BGCL sports teams through coordinating travel and schedules as well as searching for new opportunities in tournaments and events.
- Create and provide practice plans for coaches.
- Plan, coordinate, schedule, promote, lead, and evaluate recreation programs and special events.
- Analyze and report outcomes.
- Plan camps and clinics in off seasons.
Resource Management
- Recruits, selects and manages coaches/volunteers as needed for athletic programming. Ensures all coaches/volunteers have completed the appropriate applications and screenings
- Ensures all personnel (gym monitors, officials, referees, scorekeepers, janitors, etc.) are present for each event and have the proper equipment for successful service.
- Manage inventory of recreational and sports league equipment, ensuring that the amount of equipment is sufficient for program needs and that equipment is in good working condition.
- Assist in the development and monitoring of the Sports and Recreation program budget.
Partnership Development
- Develops partnerships with parents, community leaders and organizations. Works to deepen relationships with community groups that may bring available athletic resources to the assistance of our membership (i.e., Gainesville Parks & Rec, YMCA, Gainesville City Schools, Buford City Schools, Hall County Schools, Habersham County Schools, Forsyth County Schools, etc.)
Marketing and Public Relations
- Work with marketing/resource development to design flyers and media to promote leagues.
- Provide marketing team with photos/videos along with post descriptions for distribution.
Additional Job Responsibilities:
- Submit requests for purchase of supplies and equipment as described in BGCL policies and procedures.
- Transport members and teams in Club passenger vans
- Other duties as assigned.
Relationships:
Internal: Maintains contact with schools, staff and parents ensuring all are informed with league signups/registration, game/practice schedules, and other sport program details. Work closely with each related staff member ensuring that they have the ability and resources to assist with sports league programming.
External: Work with partner facilities to schedule events, games and practices. Keeps up to date with all opportunities for our Club members within related sports programs. Maintain close contact with Boys & Girls Clubs of Lanier volunteers. Ensure communication with external community groups to publicize sports related programming.
Physical Requirements / Work Environment:
Physical requirements include physical exertion such as lifting up to 40lbs, stretching, rigorous physical activity and bending in a Club setting as well as standing for long periods. The work environment is in a Club, school, or other league venue setting and includes interaction with youth ages 5-18 and can be noisy at times.
Qualifications
Skills / Knowledge Required
- Associates degree or some college in the physical education, health or youth development field is preferred or equivalent job experience.
- Two or more years’ experience in direction and implementing youth, physical education or sports programs is required. Experience with Boys & Girls Clubs is preferred.
- Experience in implementing grant-funded programs is preferred.
- Ability to network with school administrators and personnel
- Ability to motivate youth sports athletes.
- Mandatory CPR/First Aid certification required, while additional certifications or training in the physical education field preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Organizational skills and attention to detail
