JOB SUMMARY: |
Under direction the Director, Camp Kiwanis, observes and leads youth in and around the Broad River including tubing, kayaking and swimming activities, to ensure safe behavior, adherence to rules and to help those in distress.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND ACCOUNTABILITIES: |
- Creates an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes: Orients new members to water safety instruction and swim program, tubing and kayaking, special events, and opportunities as well as to club safety, program and disciplinary rules.
- Orients campers to club safety rules for the Broad River and surrounding areas.
- Observes youth using river and helps those in distress.
- Monitors river and surrounding areas for safety hazards.
- Maintains order and discipline of club members and enforces safety rules.
- Provides guidance and role modeling to members.
- Works as a team member to assist aquatics staff during periods when river is not being utilized by swimmers.
- Recommends needed repairs to facility and/or equipment and reports
- Participates in training/educational opportunities to expand knowledge and skills.
- Maintains close, daily contact with all Camp Kiwanis Staff, Club members and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues and explain guidelines/instructions.
EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS: |
Education
- High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
- Must be 18 years old or older
- Lifeguard Certificate required
- First Aid & CPR Certificate required
Experience
- Minimum of 1 year of Lifeguarding experience preferred
- Demonstrated ability to swim
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior

ENVIRONMENT & WORKING CONDITIONS: |
Normal internal office environment with occasional need to travel to club locations within the Metro Atlanta area. Frequent internal contacts with employees throughout organization required. Daily contact with club staff, club members, outside organizations and individuals to plan, coordinate and deliver programs. The job requires the ability to stand for extended periods, kneel, reach, bend, and lift objects weighing in excess of 25lbs. Outdoor work and moderate physically demanding activities may be required on occasion. Travel to special events and field trips required. Must be able to work daily afternoon/evening hours. Occasional weekend work required to accomplish objectives.
EMPLOYEE CLASSIFICATION: |
Nonexempt employees are entitled, under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), to time and one-half their "regular rate" of pay for each hour they actually work over the applicable FLSA overtime threshold in the applicable FLSA work period.
