OVERVIEW

The Teen Coordinator is responsible for leading the after-school program at Inglewood High School, fostering a vibrant, engaging, and innovative environment for teens. This role involves managing a team, building strong relationships with school administration and community partners, and ensuring programs are outcome-driven and reflective of teen voices. The Teen Coordinator will drive program attendance, demonstrate initiative, and develop creative strategies to attract and retain teen participants.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Program Leadership

  • Plan, coordinate, and implement high-quality, innovative programs and activities tailored to teen interests.
  • Promote and stimulate program participation to ensure consistent and growing attendance.
  • Provide guidance and role modeling to teens, fostering an inclusive and supportive environment.
  • Actively engage teens to ensure their voices are heard and incorporated into programming decisions.

Team Management

  • Supervise, train, and evaluate program staff, fostering a productive and collaborative team culture.
  • Oversee the recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing support of staff and volunteers.
  • Ensure staff performance aligns with organizational standards and program goals.
  • Partnership and Communication

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with school administration, community partners, and families.
  • Act as the primary liaison between the Boys & Girls Club and Inglewood High School to address issues, share updates, and strengthen partnerships.
  • Communicate effectively with teens, parents, and stakeholders to ensure alignment and transparency.
  • Program Administration

  • Develop and maintain accurate program schedules, attendance records, and reports.
  • Ensure proper storage, maintenance, and inventory of program equipment and supplies.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe program environment.
  • Ensure all program areas comply with health and safety standards. Emphasize safety as an important part of all program activities and staff training.
  • Develop, implement, and enforce safety policies and procedures as a core component of all programming.
  • Conduct regular safety training and drills for staff and teens, ensuring everyone understands emergency protocols and procedures.
  • Perform risk assessments and proactively address potential safety concerns to minimize risks.
  • Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of safety-related incidents and ensure timely reporting to appropriate parties.
  • Establish and uphold a safe and supportive environment for all participants, with a focus on health, wellness, and injury prevention.
  • Additional Responsibilities

  • Assist with discipline and behavior management, reinforcing club rules and ensuring a positive atmosphere.
  • Attend mandatory meetings and training sessions to stay updated on best practices and organizational goals.
  • Take on other duties as assigned by the Director of Teen Services.
  • Requirements

    EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE, LICENSURE AND CERTIFICATION

  • Demonstrated commitment to maintaining a safe environment for youth.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited college or university or equivalent experience (minimum of 60 semester or 90 quarter units).
  • Minimum 2 years of youth development experience in a school, childcare, or after-school program setting.
  • Comprehensive understanding of youth safety policies and procedures, risk management, and emergency response procedures.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing and enforcing safety standards, particularly in a youth development setting.
  • Mandatory CPR and First Aid certifications and TB test clearance.
  • Bilingual Spanish / English preferred.
  • KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY and SKILLS

  • Proven history of successfully leading teen programs, including managing staff and delivering results.
  • Ability to develop and execute programs that accommodate diverse learning styles and interests.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage multiple priorities.
  • Organizational and management skills to ensure smooth program operations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant tools.
  • Leadership and initiative to drive program innovation and success.
  • Proactive problem-solving and outcome-driven mindset.
  • Strong relationship-building skills to connect with teens, staff, and partners.
  • Creativity to develop programs that attract and retain teen engagement.
  • Commitment to creating a safe, inclusive, and positive environment for all participants.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS and DRIVING

  • Travel between Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Los Angeles sites and schools and various field trip sites as well as in the community is required. Must meet the insurance standards of Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Los Angeles.
  • Hours are strictly between 10 : 30 AM and 7 : 30 PM with a 1-hour lunch break
  • Hours are based on school calendar and attendance patterns / trends – evening hours are required during the school year; hours will vary during summer and school breaks; occasional weekend hours are required.

    The position requires the ability to maintain a stationary position and engage in physical activities such as moving, bending, reaching, and positioning. It may also involve traversing and ascending / descending as necessary. The role includes frequent interruptions via in-person contact, phone calls, and email communications.

    Work environments may vary, encompassing both indoor and outdoor conditions based on activity locations. Additionally, interactions with youth and adults may involve moderate to high noise levels during activities. Physical exertion may be necessary to move and transport supplies and equipment.
