Description

Work Schedule: Part-time – non-exempt, generally scheduled up to 30 hours per week, Mondays – Friday, between 11:30 am and 6:00pm. Training and youth workshops may be scheduled outside of this time.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Working under the direction of their assigned Elementary Education Coordinator, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Monterey County (BGCMC) Education Impact Leader II plays an essential role in helping youth succeed as they directly serve as positive role models, mentors and activity leaders to diverse youth delivering an engaging, age-appropriate and outcome-driven program in the Technology Center with specialized focus on technology skill building and literacy support for K-5th grade youth. Further, the BGCMC Impact Leader II is responsible for contributing to the following key elements of positive youth development:


PRIMARY FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leads youth in homework after school supervision;
  • Leads youth in web-based literacy intervention programming using Read Naturally and/or assigned web-based literacy programs;
  • Participate in the setting and achievement of Academic Success goals for the education department;
  • Lead and/or collaborate in activities and/or programs in one or more of the Core Program Areas of Education & Career Development, Health & Life Skills, Sports, Fitness & Recreation and Character Development & Leadership Development;
  • Ensure Members have the opportunity to design projects and express themselves creatively utilizing technology in a learner-centered environment;
  • Utilizes impact management tools to track and report program outcomes, including monitoring specific youth success indicators such as school attendance, behavior, grades,  frequency of attendance, program attendance and impact etc. via case management;
  • Assist in conducting  parent meetings in an effort to engage families with youth success;
  • Foster an environment where youth acquire a sense of belonging, competence, usefulness, power and influence, and are engaged in developmentally appropriate, high yield learning activities primarily for grades K-5 in Education, Character & Leadership Development; and Health & Life Skills;
  • Address youth behavior with a positive discipline approach that is fair, firm, consistent and kind;  helping youth take responsibility/accountability for their actions accompanied with appropriate consequences;
  • Ensure a culture of high expectations and frequent recognition of youth;
  • Work with the Education team on special event planning and execution in coordination with Operations;
  • Accepts responsibility as a Role Model/Mentor for Youth and Mandated Reporter.
  • Clearance of pre-employment screening including background check and drug screening;.
  • Manage safety and order in assigned program areas (including field trips and youth services delivered at non-BGCMC locations) as well as compliance to policy and standard operating procedures;
  • Report Clubhouse safety, maintenance, and technology so they can be promptly addressed by Operations;
  • Ensure the assigned program area is clean & well decorated, and reflective of monthly themes; program supplies are adequate and inviting for all elementary students (K-5th grade);
  • Ability Provide support to other program departments (ie. Education, SFR, Technology, etc) as needed.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, high-energy youth friendly environment.

Collateral Duties 

  • Performs other duties as assigned in alignment with fulfilling primary function of position.
  • Lead and/or collaborate in off site BGCMC youth development programs and/or activities (i.e. School Day Program, Catch The Bus, Outreach, etc.)

Requirements

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum two years’ experience working with youth ages 6-18 years old.
  • Two years of experience planning and implementing educational programs for youth
  • Demonstrated classroom management ability
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Capacity to supervise group work
  • Efficient and effective planning and problem solving skills
  • Supportive, flexible disposition
  • Tech savvy, including proficiency in utilizing Google Suite and Internet for program facilitation and  maximum productivity.  
  • Specialization in one or more of the following Programming Areas (be sure to specify which you possess in your application):
    • Technology 
    • Literacy & Reading 
    • Math 
    • STEAM
  • Enable youth to become proficient in basic educational disciplines, apply learning to everyday situations, plan for higher education and careers and embrace technology. 
  • Reliable transportation

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position including sitting or standing for 50% of the time.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bi-lingual English and Spanish
  • Educational background in Literacy instruction
  • Experience as a youth development professional in the Boys & Girls Club Movement
  • Cultural competence, ability to work with a diverse youth and people
  • First Aid & CPR Certification 

COMPENSATION:

Salary begins at $20.46 to $21.50 per hour and based upon experience and qualifications.  Paid benefits package at Impact Leader II level consisting of accrual of up to 30 hours paid vacation, 30 hours paid sick leave, plus 24 hours of paid California Healthy Workplace Healthy Family sick leave, medical, vision, dental, life and disability insurance, pension and 403(b) plan investment options.  Professional development opportunities are available contingent upon funding and approval. This position is classified as non-exempt and as such is eligible for the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
