Job Title: Staff Accountant
Reports to: Chief Financial Officer
Job Classification: Full-time, salaried, exempt position
Salary Range: $65,000 to $80,000 annually

GENERAL SUMMARY
We are seeking a detail-oriented, positive and collaborative Staff Accountant to join our Finance team. The Staff Accountant is responsible for overseeing and participating in full-cycle A/P, A/R, posting/reviewing of GL, managing monthly credit card statements, and other general accounting duties. They will assist with cash management, financial reporting, and produce monthly financial statements. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and 3 years of related experience, preferably within the non-profit sector. This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
JOB SEGMENTS
Manage Accounts Payable:
- Review all incoming check requests, enter A/P, and prepare for review by CFO before printing checks.
- Respond to staff questions regarding payment and expense coding
- Process checks weekly and submit to check signers for signature
- Review outstanding checks and resolve with appropriate staff members
Manage Accounts Receivable
- Review and post revenue batches and make adjustments as necessary
- Ensure compliance with internal controls on cash receipts
- Work with Development staff to accurately code contributions
Manage Purchasing Process
- Responsible for purchasing process and reconciliation of credit cards.
- Collect receipts from staff and ensure proper coding of expenses
- Work with staff to ensure accuracy and budget compliance
Support the Monthly Close Procedures
- Assist CFO with bank reconciliations
- Prepare monthly closing journal entries on monthly checklist
- Help maintain the general ledger, including posting and reviewing entries, and month-end account reconciliations
Grants Management
- Assist in preparation of grant invoicing
- Ensure compliance with federal- and state-funded grants
- Responsible for the accurate coding and reporting for all grants in the accounting system
- Communicate with program staff on grant requirements and budgets
- Ensure adherence to grant requirements
Other Duties
- Adherence to BGCP policies and procedures, including but not limited to: personnel policies, operations & safety policies, financial policies and procedures
- Support annual audit with CFO
- Create template for and assist in annual budget process
- Complete 1099-Misc and other tax forms in January
- Other duties as assigned
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance (or related field)
- 3 or more years of related work experience (non-profit sector preferred)
- Computer/System Skills: Excel and Microsoft Office software, Outlook. Financial accounting software, preferably with MIP Fund Accounting
- Prior experience applying knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Skills in organizing, planning, and prioritizing work
- Ability to balance multiple assignments and complete projects and tasks on-time and accurately
- Communication skills (active listening, reading comprehension, writing and speaking with others to convey information effectively)
- Ability to demonstrate a professional demeanor
- Ability to create and maintain positive working relationships with staff, Board Members, guests, and others related to the work of BGCP
- Ability to demonstrate high levels of integrity, ethics, and trustworthiness.
- Ability to obtain successful clearances on all background checks and other pre-employment requirements, including but not limited to: National, state and local criminal background checks; RI DCYF C.A.N.T.S. background check; out-of-state child abuse registry checks (if applicable); federal I-9 clearance for identity and eligibility to work in the U.S.; continuous “Criminal Records Watch” through First Advantage during BGCP employment; reference checks.

To perform this job successfully an individual must meet the physical requirements necessary to complete the essential job duties.
