PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The Art Specialist is responsible for guaranteeing that Boys & Girls Club members are provided a variety of art education. It’s the Art Specialist’s responsibility to prepare lesson plans, activities, and to create a positive, fun, and safe environment.
The candidates for this position should be a dynamic, enthusiastic and experienced art professional with impressive leadership ability that enjoys working with youth from ages 6 through 18. This position involves extensive organizing, problem solving, instruction, and time management.
KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities and Functions):
Prepare Youth for Success
- Work with youth of all ability levels and help develop team relationships
- Create an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes Promote and stimulate program participation.
- Provide guidance and role modeling to all members.
- Provide members with instruction, encouragement, and constructive feedback on their progress.
Establish a program setting that insures the health and safety of members
- Educate members on how to understand and follow the standards and positive interaction in the club.
- Keep all art areas neat and clean.
- Assures the proper care and maintenance of all art equipment and identifies equipment needs.
- Maintain inventory of art equipment and supplies
- Seek help and assistance with children from other professional staff as needed
Program Development and Implementation
- Effectively implement and administer art programs, services, and activities for members.
- Provide lesson plans for multiple art mediums.
- Must be creative and resourceful.
- Monitor and evaluate programs, services, and activities to ensure safety of members.
- Participate in Youth Development Training.
- Lifting in excess of 45lbs will be required at times.
RELATIONSHIPS:
Internal: Maintain close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer), Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain or interpret guidelines/instructions; instruct, and advise/counsel.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
- A minimum of one year work experience in a similar capacity
- High School diploma or GED
- Experience working with youth
- Experience with leading large group activities.
- Experience with teaching art to youth
- Ability to plan and implement quality programs for youth
- Must be responsible and reliable
The Art Specialist will rotate between multiple after school program sites. Hours range from 2:00pm-6:30pm. 20-25 hours weekly.
This job involves standing for long periods as well as squatting, and lifting, twisting, and running. Lifting in excess of 45lbs will be required at times.
