POSITION DESCRIPTION

Do you have an imagination that is out of this world? Our Part-Time Junior Summer Camp Counselor may be the perfect fit for you! The Junior Summer Camp Counselor assists other Club staff with setting up planned activities and supervising youth ages 5-12. Staff serving in this role may be asked to dress up for Pirate Day, prepare water balloons, help prepare a group chant, make popcorn, or any number of similar tasks.
The Junior Summer Camp Counselor is responsible for the safety and supervision of Club members in a variety of program areas. Under the direction of the Youth Development Supervisor, the Junior Summer Camp Counselor delivers quality programs and high-yield activities to Club members. Utilizes the organizations mission, vision, and values to set members up for success and provide an outcome-driven Club experience. Responsibilities include but are not limited to program development and facilitation, program area safety and cleanliness, and providing guidance to volunteers. Junior Summer Camp Counselors must be accompanied by an employee who is at least 18 years old when working with Club members.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Essential functions and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Program Facilitation & Implementation:
- Develops, organizes, and facilitates programs and activities utilizing a formal curriculum.
- Directly runs programming and high-yield activities in assigned area alongside other Club staff.
- Engages in program delivery. Supports other Club staff by modeling appropriate participation in games and activities.
- Fosters positive relationships between staff and Club members.
- Delivers programs with an enthusiastic, high-energy, positive attitude.
- Demonstrates a commitment to providing a fun summer experience for Club members.
Health & Safety:
- Ensures program areas remain safe, clean, and organized.
- Adheres to Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdales policies and procedures.
- Demonstrates sound judgement and decision-making. Acts quickly in emergency situations.
- Maintains Club equipment and property to ensure they stay in good working order.
- Uses positive guidance and discipline techniques to redirect member behavior issues.
- Utilizes active supervision techniques when working with Club members.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Supports and mirrors the culture, mission, values, and core beliefs of Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale.
- Promotes an inclusive, welcoming, and respectful environment that embraces diversity.
- Engages with all Club members, especially those who need us most, to ensure a positive and inclusive summer experience.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
Required:
- Minimum age 16 and at least going into Junior Year of High School.
- Boys & Girls Club membership.
- Passion for working with youth.
- Ability to multitask and adapt to Clubs changing needs.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and cooperative working skills.
- Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Suite and be comfortable adapting to new technology.
- Flawless ethics and integrity.
- Safety oriented mindset.
Recommended:
- Minimum 1 year experience as a Club member.
- Participation in Keystone Program.
