What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tutor position at Boys & Girls Clubs of Sonoma-Marin?
** Position is part time, up to 8 hours per week.**
Position: After-School Tutor
General Purpose:
Tutor provides one-on-one or small group academic support to Members in elementary and middle school, helping them to build essential skills and succeed in their coursework. The tutor will assess Member needs, provide targeted instruction, and create personalized learning strategies to ensure that each Member receives the support necessary to meet educational goals.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Academic Support: Provide assistance with a range of subjects including reading, writing, math, science, and social studies. Tailor instruction to individual Member needs and learning styles.
- Homework Assistance: Guide Members through their homework, helping them understand concepts, solve problems, and complete assignments accurately and efficiently.
- Skill Development: Focus on building fundamental skills in literacy, numeracy, critical thinking, and problem-solving.
- Progress Monitoring: Regularly assess Members’ understanding and academic progress. Provide feedback to Members and parents regarding progress and areas of improvement.
- Customized Instruction: Create lesson plans or activities that are tailored to meet the specific needs and interests of each Member, ensuring that lessons are engaging and challenging.
- Encouragement and Motivation: Foster a positive learning environment by encouraging Members to stay engaged, build confidence, and stay motivated to succeed academically.
- Collaboration: Work closely with teachers and Club staff to communicate Member progress and collaborate on strategies to help Members improve.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of sessions, track Member progress, and report outcomes to Club Lead.
- Learning Environment: Create a focused, distraction-free learning space where Members feel comfortable and confident to ask questions and take risks in their learning.

Ensure the safety of all Members at all times
Requirements:
Education and/or Expertise:
Expertise in a related field.
Four-year degree from an accredited college or university required.
Strong knowledge of elementary and middle school curriculum in core subjects.
Ability to explain complex concepts in a clear and understandable manner.
Patience, empathy and the ability to adapt teaching methods to meet the diverse needs if Members.
Requirements:
Mandatory negative TB test
Applicants must be able to successfully perform the essential physical functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation.
The employee must occasionally lift and or move up to 50 lbs.
Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions of position and to supervise program activities.
Requires ability to walk, sit, stand, bend, squat, pull/push, grasp up to 4 hours per day.
