SUMMARY: The Maintenance Specialist II is responsible for renovating and maintaining clubhouse, community center, and administrative office facilities and grounds and completing maintenance work orders as assigned.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Ensure walking surfaces are free of snow and safe. Salt and sand as needed.
  • Assist in assuring building exteriors, grounds, and athletic fields are well maintained, free of graffiti and litter, and are safe, neat, clean, sanitary, and attractive.
  • Assist in assuring building interiors and equipment are well maintained and are safe, neat, clean, sanitary, and attractive.
  • Assist in assuring fleet interiors and exteriors are well maintained, free of graffiti, and are safe, neat, clean, sanitary, and attractive.
  • Perform minor plumbing, carpentry, painting, furniture, lighting and electrical maintenance and routine equipment maintenance.
  • Troubleshoot assess, repair and replace damaged and worn items including doors, locks, windows, walls, floors, ceilings, cabinets, furniture, faucets, toilets, sinks, drains, water lines, valves, electrical outlets, heaters, ventilators, thermostats, fixtures, lights, switches, vehicle accessories, power tools and playground equipment.
  • Operate and perform preventative maintenance on small grounds keeping machinery (such as backhoe, loader, snowblower, mower, pickup mounted snow plow, and ice rink equipment).
  • Maintain in good working order all tools and equipment. Assure the security and accurate inventory of all tools and equipment.
  • Proactively seek and repair facility, fleet and grounds issues keeping a safe environment for members, staff, volunteers, and visitors.
  • Assist with implementation and observation of standard Organizational Safety/Security Policies and Procedures, Incident Reporting Policies and Procedures and Emergency Procedures
  • Operate passenger vehicle in the course of transporting buses and vans from worksite to worksite or to and from repair shops. Transport passengers, by van or bus, as backup driver for program services. Includes completing required vehicle inspection and mileage reports and maintaining vehicle maintenance records.
  • Assist with logistics, planning and implementation, including arranging air and/or ground shipping of equipment and building materials
  • Assist with transporting equipment and supplies, setup and breakdown for special events.
  • React to change productively and handle other essential tasks as assigned

Requirements

SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

  • Ability to operate maintenance vehicles and machinery safely, including field maintenance equipment, plow truck, John Deere tractor, and rotary brush
  • Ability to safely operate hand and power tools
  • Ability to read construction drawings and blueprints, and complete work from them.
  • Skilled in basic mechanical, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and finish work
  • Ability to prioritize activities and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work with little supervision
  • Must be at least 21 years of age, with a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, good driving record, three years of driving experience
  • Must pass a pre-employment health screening, and participate in our drug and alcohol screening program
  • Willingness to obtain Commercial Drivers’ License within 6 months of hire. Employer will train.
  • Must pass criminal records check and Dept. of Corrections Community Work Service screening.
  • Ability to achieve and maintain first aid and CPR certification
  • Must pass a name-based and fingerprint criminal records background check

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to walk, sit, stand, utilize fine and gross motor manipulation, and climbing ramps, stairs and/or into planes.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 lbs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Primarily a normal internal work environment. Performing the duties of this job may include activities hosted outdoors in various weather conditions. Noise levels for activities in the Club environment may be loud.
  • The position will include regular local travel to Clubs in the Anchorage/Mat-Su region and occasional travel to other communities the Clubs serve statewide.
  • Work during evenings and weekends will occasionally be required, given the nature of the position and its connection with community partners.
  • Our organization participates in payroll through direct deposit and all employees are required to main a valid bank account during the course of their employment.
