E-sports/Coding Specialist
Location: New Hanover County Sites
Hours: 25-29 hours per week, Monday-Friday
Pay: $14-$17 per hour
Reports to: County Program Director

 

Position Overview:

The Esports/Coding Specialist is responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing esports and coding programs across multiple Boys & Girls Club sites in New Hanover County. This role focuses on providing engaging, educational experiences that promote teamwork, problem-solving, and technological skills among youth.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and lead esports programming, including team-based competitions, training sessions, and gaming-related skill-building activities.
  • Implement coding workshops tailored to different skill levels, introducing members to game development, robotics, and software programming.
  • Create a structured curriculum that aligns with STEM education and fosters critical thinking and digital literacy.
  • Maintain and manage esports and technology equipment, ensuring all resources are utilized effectively and safely.
  • Engage and mentor youth, encouraging participation, teamwork, and personal growth through gaming and coding.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive environment that supports skill development and career exploration in technology-related fields.
  • Collaborate with staff and community partners to enhance programming opportunities and secure additional resources.
  • Track program participation and outcomes, providing regular reports to the County Program Director.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in esports, gaming, coding, or technology education.
  • Ability to teach and mentor youth in a structured and engaging manner.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with gaming consoles, PC gaming setups, and coding platforms.
  • Passion for youth development and creating impactful learning experiences.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar role, preferably in youth development, non-profit management, or education programs.
  • A minimum of two years’ work experience in a Boys & Girls Club or similar organization planning and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of young people is preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, competing priorities, and staff.
  • Knowledge of grant compliance, reporting, and data tracking is preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with an ability to work collaboratively across teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), Google Suite, and data management systems.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends.
  • A valid driver's license and ability to travel between program sites as needed.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and listen. This is largely a sedentary role. However, it may require standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and stooping. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. No personal protective equipment is required. Travel to Club sites is required, as well as some outdoor activity. Mileage reimbursement is provided for travel outside assigned counties.
