Behavioral Support Specialist

Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Unit Director, a Behavioral Support Specialist is responsible for ensuring the safety and crisis behavioral support of youth while promoting the 5 key elements of youth development:

Job Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Experience working with youth in a guidance-oriented atmosphere required
  • Experience or training in working with youth with challenging developmental or behavioral needs required
  • Missouri Class E Driver’s License preferred, but not required

Key Responsibilities

1. Member Support and Observation

  • Implement safe, non-physical crisis behavior management strategies to support Boys & Girls Club members, ensuring a safe, positive, and inclusive environment.
  • Proactively observe and engage with members to identify early signs of behavioral challenges, providing timely interventions to prevent escalation.
  • Apply trauma-informed behavioral support protocols to foster equity, inclusion, and a strong sense of belonging for all members, enhancing their overall Club experience.

2. Documentation and Reporting

  • Maintain accurate and confidential documentation of behavioral incidents, interventions, and outcomes to track trends and support member growth.
  • Provide regular reports to the Unit Director and other leadership as needed to inform program improvements and individualized support.

3. Staff Collaboration and Training Support

  • Collaborate with the Unit Director to assess member needs and provide referrals for families to appropriate community resources.
  • Assist in training Youth Development Professionals on trauma-informed practices, positive behavior reinforcement, and conflict resolution strategies.
  • Serve as a resource to staff for implementing effective behavioral management techniques in day-to-day programming.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities related to trauma-informed care, behavioral management, and Social-Emotional Learning.
  • Partner with Youth Development Professionals to integrate programming that promotes Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) and supports youth development goals.
  • Participate in internal cohorts, team initiatives, or volunteer for Boys & Girls Clubs events as needed.

4. Family Engagement

  • Communicate with families as appropriate, supporting positive relationships between home and Club to encourage consistency in behavioral strategies and expectations.

5. Other

  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of facilities and program areas to ensure a safe and welcoming environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support Club operations and member success.

Physical Requirements

Percentage of Work Spent on Activity: 0-24%, 25-49%, 50-74%, 75-100%

  • Seeing: (75-100%) Must be able to see well enough to see computer and calculator screens and read documents and reports. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Must have 20/20 vision (with or without correction).
  • Hearing: (50-74%) Must be able to hear well enough to effectively communicate with clients, vendors, and coworkers.
  • Sitting: (50-74%) Must be able to sit for extended periods of time. Must be able to operate vehicles.
  • Standing/Walking: (50-74%) Must have the ability to move about the work site.
  • Climbing/Stooping/Kneeling: (25-49%) Must be able to stoop or kneel to pick up paper products or materials.
  • Lifting/Pulling/Pushing: (0-24%) Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Grasping/Feeling: (75-100%) Must be able to grasp and use computer equipment, including keyboard, mouse, and calculator. Must be able to drive.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often in a clean, non-smoking, heated and cooled office environment. The employee will also frequently be indoors or in a vehicle, but may also be outdoors with exposure to dust, pollen, and outside temperature and weather extremes associated with the region. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate. Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $15.00 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 25 per week
