This opening is a seasonal employment opportunity; staff training would take place during the month of June and the position will conclude at the end of the camp season (end-August). Camp is open from 7:30 am - 5:30 pm Monday - Friday and we have locations in Stoneham and Wakefield MA.
Key Responsibilities:
- Counselors will be responsible for leading a variety of activities, games, and lessons for campers ages 5-13. In addition to direct interaction with youth participants each day, counselors will be responsible for maintaining a well-organized and safe atmosphere to support participants’ overall experience.
- With direction from the Camp Director and Assistant Camp Director, counselors are actively engaged in both the planning and delivery of daily lessons and activities at the camp. Counselors are also responsible for assisting with the care of the camp materials, setting, cleanliness of the program areas, as well as other program-related tasks as directed throughout the season.
- Assist in maintaining accurate program records, including incident reports, logbook documentation, and daily attendance.
- Know and understand all safety guidelines and emergency procedures associated with the camp program.
- Counselors may communicate with parents, provide updates where required and answer questions about camp.
- Track campers with dietary restrictions, allergies or other medical needs to ensure their safety, such as taking any required medication.
- Accompany campers on field trips and to the pool. Counselors may choose whether they wish to swim with the campers.
- Other tasks & projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Age 16 .
- High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
- 1 year of youth development experience is preferred.
- First Aid & CPR certification preferred.
- An up-to-date physical and proof of immunizations required by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.
Skills and experience:
- Enthusiastic, responsible, and energetic individuals with a true passion for youth development are encouraged to apply.
- You have excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, patience and emotional resilience, and be able to model healthy behavior while working with campers.
- Must be creative, adaptable, able to problem solve and be a positive contributor to our team, including co-counselors, parents, and participants.
- Ability to plan and implement age-appropriate activities
- Ability to maintain a safe and healthy environment for children
