About Boys & Girls Club Hall Memorial Pool:
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro North (BGC) is searching for a seasonal swim instructor/aquatics staff to provide high-quality swimming instruction to individuals of all ages and skill levels. As a swim instructor, you will be responsible for teaching swim lessons in a fun, engaging, and safe outdoor environment while ensuring the well-being of all participants.
Position Overview: This position is responsible for teaching swim lessons, reinforcing water safety practices, and fostering confidence in the water. You will work closely with swimmers, parents, and fellow aquatic staff to deliver structured lessons that help participants improve their swimming techniques while promoting safety and enjoyment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teach swim lessons to children ages 3-14 y/o with varying skill levels using the Michael Phelps IM Swim Curriculum
- Ensure the safety of all swimmers by maintaining constant supervision and enforcing pool rules.
- Provide clear instructions, demonstrations, and constructive feedback to improve swimming techniques and water safety skills.
- Maintain a positive and encouraging learning environment.
- Assist with lesson planning, class organization, and tracking participant progress.
- Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, and participants regarding lesson plans, progress, and safety measures.
- Perform basic first aid and emergency response if necessary.
- Assist with setup and cleanup of swim lesson equipment and materials.
- Collaborate with other aquatic staff, including lifeguards and supervisors, to ensure smooth facility operations.
- Front Desk Duties: Responsible for admission sales, member check-in, answering the site phone, and assisting with swim lesson check-in and attendance.
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 15 years old.
- Prior experience teaching swim lessons or working in an aquatics environment is preferred.
- Strong swimming ability and knowledge of water safety principles.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patience, enthusiasm, and ability to work with individuals of all ages and skill levels.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Availability to work flexible hours, including mornings, evenings, and weekends as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience working at an outdoor aquatics facility.
- Additional certifications in swim instruction or coaching.
- Experience working with children and individuals with special needs.
- Current certifications in
- CPR, First Aid
- Lifeguarding
- Water Safety Instruction (WSI) or YMCA Swim Instructor. Additional pay available to current holders.
Skills and experience:
- Strong Swimming Ability: Must be proficient in various swim strokes and techniques.
- Water Safety Knowledge: Understanding of swim safety protocols, rescue techniques, and drowning prevention.
- Instruction & Coaching: Ability to teach and demonstrate swim techniques effectively to students of all ages and abilities.
- Communication Skills: Clear verbal instructions and positive engagement with students, parents, and team members.
- Patience & Encouragement: Ability to work with beginners, young children, and nervous swimmers in a supportive and motivating manner.
- Emergency Response: Basic lifesaving and first aid skills to respond quickly to any poolside incidents.
- Adaptability: Ability to modify lesson plans based on student needs, weather conditions, and class dynamics.
- Teamwork: Ability to collaborate with other instructors, lifeguards, and facility staff.
- Organization: Keeping track of lesson plans, student progress, and safety procedures.
