Boys & Girls Club of the Gila River Indian Community is looking for a Teen Director who is willing to direct the operation of all teen programs in a specific teen center, with primary concern for the program of activities. Plans, develops, implements, coordinates and supervises teen programs.
Relationships:
Internal: Maintain close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer), Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain or interpret guidelines/instructions; instruct; and advise/counsel.
External: Maintain contact as needed with external community groups, schools, members’ parents and other to assist in resolving problems.

Prepare Youth for Success
Establishes and maintains a teen program setting which ensures the health and safety of members, ensures teens understand and follow standards of programs; that program areas are safe, well ventilated and well lit; and the equipment is maintained in good working condition. Orders, maintains and ensures proper storage of equipment and supplies or the teen center.
- Develops and fosters a positive climate for teen development based on the mission and goals of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Ensures that teens actively participate in a variety of programs and activities; seek advice and guidance from staff about problems; and receive caring, respect and recognition for their efforts.
- Plans and oversees the administration of teen programs and activities that support the Boys & Girls Club movement’s “Youth Development Strategy.” Establishes objectives consistent with the organizational goals and mission. Evaluates teen programs on a continual basis and ensures programs and activities address the gender and cultural diversity of members.
- Implements and directs daily teen programs and activities in the teen center. Ensures that teens are encouraged to participate in a variety of program areas and activities and receive instruction and constructive feedback to develop skills in program area(s). Demonstrates dynamic leadership to assure conduct, safety and development of teens.
- Oversees guidance services to teens to assist them in making appropriate and fulfilling choices in educational, personal, physical, social, emotional, vocational and spiritual needs.
- Manages administrative functions of the teen center and assigned resources. Ensures proper record keeping and reporting including activities and events conducted, breakdown of daily participation figures, notable achievements and any problems or issues. Oversees programs within established budgetary guidelines.
- Recruits, recommends selection, and trains teen staff and volunteers.
- Promotes programs to teens by posting a daily schedule, announcements of upcoming events and dissemination of timely information for the development of advertising and promotion through mailings, fliers, and media.
- Maintains close daily contact with club and teen staff, club and teen center members, supervisor and volunteers to receive/provide information, discuss issues, understand guidelines/instructions, instruct, and advise/counsel.
- Establishes an outreach program by maintaining contact with external community groups, school faculty, teens, parents and others to assist in member recruitment, to provide information about services, to form collaborations, and encourage community mobilization in regard to teen issues.
- Manages the Youth of the Year Program by guiding members through essay writing, public speaking, and college preparation.
- Manages all BGCA Teen programs including but not limited to; Keystone Club, diplomas2Degrees, Money Matters, S.M.A.R.T Moves, etc.
Skills/Knowledge Required:
- A minimum of two (2) years work experience in a Boys & Girls Club or similar organization planning and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of teens.
- Strong communications skills, both written and verbal.
- Group leadership skills, including an understanding of teen issues and group dynamics.
- Demonstrated organizational and project management abilities.
- Mandatory CPR and First Aid Certifications
- Valid Driver’s License
Additional Responsibilities:
1. May participate in additional special programs and/or events
2. May be required to drive Branch van.
3. Evenings/weekend work involved.
4. Other duties as assigned.
