What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Food Service Coordinator position at Boys & Girls Clubs of The Sioux Empire?
The Food Service Coordinator is responsible for preparing, serving, storing and daily clean-up of various food items. This is a seasonal position with hours from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM during the summer. The role will work closely with the Food Service Supervisor and program directors to ensure the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Sioux Empire is compliant with the Child and Adult Nutrition Program Requirements, Health and Safety Standards, and organization policies.
Essential Job Functions:
- Prepare, apportion, and serve a variety of nutritious food in compliance with the Child and Adult Nutrition Program requirements, Health and Safety Standards, and agency policies.
- Follow meals as specified by the monthly food menu.
- Incorporate cultural, ethnic, or religious preferences and needs in the development of nutrition plans.
- Monitor food distribution and ensure guidelines, such as those for special diets, are followed.
- Clean and sanitize work areas, equipment, and utensils.
- Wash dishes, glassware, and silverware by hand or using dishwashers and place clean dishes in designated storage areas.
- Store food in designated containers and storage areas to prevent spoilage.
- Take and record temperature of food and food storage areas, such as refrigerators and freezers.
- Restock kitchen supplies, rotate food, and write the time and date on food in coolers.
- Determine production schedules and staff requirements necessary to ensure timely food preparation.
- Utilize commercial-grade equipment to prepare, cook, and store food while ensuring proper temperature control.
- Attend trainings and meetings applicable to the nutrition program.
- Responsible for all other duties and tasks as assigned by the Food Service Supervisor.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Previous experience in food service and preparation required.
- Previous experience with the Child & Adult Nutrition Program preferred.
- Ability to follow and maintain knowledge of a complex federal nutrition program.
Skills and Knowledge Requirements:
- Promote positive relationships with parents, staff and children by providing nutritious meals and good customer service.
- Must have excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Computer experience preferred.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
- Constant hearing, hand-eye coordination, mind-eye coordination.
- Intermittent speaking, standing, walking, kneeling, lifting, reaching, low-level activity, and squatting.
- Potential exposure to communicable diseases.
- Frequent lifting of objects under 20 pounds, and occasional lifting of items up to 75 pounds.
- Indoor work environment.
