- Serve as a member of the leadership team, contributing to strategic planning and decision-making.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures for residential life, school operations, and student services.
- Supervise and support residential and academic staff, ensuring the highest standards of care and engagement.
- Coordinate with other departments to promote a comprehensive approach to student development.
2. School Leadership:
- Collaborate with the school principal to ensure the delivery of high-quality education that meets the needs of all students.
- Support curriculum development and implementation in alignment with educational standards and student needs.
- Monitor academic progress and work with staff to provide appropriate interventions and support.
- Foster a culture of academic excellence, responsibility, and personal growth.
3. Student Development and Support:
- Lead efforts to create a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all students.
- Develop and oversee programs that support students' academic, social, emotional, and physical well-being.
- Foster positive relationships with students, staff, and families.
- Act as a point of contact for student issues, resolving conflicts and addressing disciplinary matters as needed.
4. Program Oversight:
- Oversee residential life programs, including student housing, activities, athletics and special events.
- Ensure all programs are developmentally appropriate and aligned with Boys Home’s mission.
- Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness, making improvements as necessary.
5. Staff Supervision and Development:
- Oversee the recruitment, hiring, training, and mentoring of residential and academic staff.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback and professional development to direct reports.
- Facilitate staff meetings and ensure open communication among team members.
6. Compliance and Safety:
- Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, policies, and best practices related to residential life, school operations, and student welfare.
- Maintain accurate records of incidents, student progress, and staff performance.
- Promote a culture of safety and well-being, ensuring that all staff and students are trained in emergency procedures.
7. Community Engagement:
- Represent Boys Home of Virginia in the community and at professional events.
- Build and maintain relationships with external partners, donors, and stakeholders.
- Support development and fundraising efforts as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, counseling, or a related field (master’s degree preferred).
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a residential or educational setting.
- Strong understanding of adolescent development and best practices in residential care and education.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and develop staff.
- Strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.
- Commitment to the mission and values of Boys Home of Virginia.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with at-risk youth in a residential setting.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care practices.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.
- Ability to participate in and supervise outdoor activities.
- Ability to respond to emergencies on campus as needed.
