Boys Home of Virginia is seeking a dedicated Head Soccer Coach & Educator to lead our soccer program while also teaching in our academic program. This dual-role position requires a passionate coach who can inspire student-athletes on the field and an enthusiastic educator who can foster learning in the classroom. The ideal candidate will be a strong mentor, promoting discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship while providing quality instruction in a subject area based on qualifications and experience.
Key Responsibilities (Coaching):
- Plan and lead all team practices, drills, and conditioning sessions.
- Develop and implement game strategies that promote teamwork and skill development.
- Foster a positive and encouraging team culture that emphasizes character, respect, and sportsmanship.
- Coordinate with school administration on scheduling practices, games, and transportation.
- Teach fundamental and advanced soccer skills appropriate for varying experience levels.
- Motivate and mentor student-athletes, promoting both athletic and personal growth. Ensure the safety and well-being of all players during practices and games.
- Maintain sports equipment and ensure fields are prepared for practices and matches.
- Communicate effectively with players, staff, and administration regarding team expectations and logistics.
- Represent Boys Home in a professional manner at all competitions.
Key Responsibilities (Teaching):
- Teach academic courses in a subject area aligned with qualifications (e.g., Math, Science, English, Social Studies, Physical Education, etc.).
- Develop lesson plans and instructional materials that engage and challenge students.
- Provide individualized support to help students succeed academically.
- Foster a structured, supportive classroom environment conducive to learning.
- Utilize a variety of teaching methods, including hands-on activities and technology.
- Assess student progress through assignments, quizzes, tests, and projects.
- Maintain accurate records of student performance and communicate regularly with administration and residential staff.
- Encourage personal growth and character development through academic and extracurricular activities.
- Collaborate with other teachers, residential staff, and administrators to support student success.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, a relevant academic subject, or a related field.
- Coaching experience at the middle or high school level (or equivalent experience).
- Passion for mentoring and developing young athletes and students.
- Strong leadership, classroom management, and communication skills.
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Ability to pass a background check in accordance with school policies
