Instructional Assistant
A full-time, competitively paid position at a first-rate college preparatory school for boys.
Boys’ Latin of Philadelphia seeks an Instructional Assistant to support students who receive special education services academically and behaviorally so that they may achieve the school’s mission: success in college and beyond. The assistant will work with individual students or small groups of students receiving special education services to support students in achieving the goals of their individualized education program as well as success inside and outside of the classroom. More specifically, the assistant will provide support to the instructional program by assisting with the supervision, care, and instruction of students in the general and special education settings; supporting the implementation of plans for instruction; monitoring student behavior; and providing information to parents, teachers, and other school stakeholders as needed and appropriate. The assistant will work under the direction of a certified teacher, collaborate with the Specialized Services Department, including special education case managers and teachers, and report to the Director of Specialized Services.
The assistant will perform the following duties:
- Assist special education and general education teachers with daily classroom operations as requested.
- Alert special education or general education teachers and other members of the faculty and staff to the needs of individual students.
- Work with individual or small groups of students to review material and provide academic and behavioral intervention.
- Support individual students with following their daily schedule; transitioning between classes and otherwise on the school’s campus; preparing for class; engaging in learning during class; submitting assignments; and interacting with students, faculty, and staff.
- Follow through with prescribed behavioral management programs.
- Help maintain individual records for each student as required.
- Support a classroom environment that is welcoming, academic, joyful, and safe.
- Enforce the student code of conduct and serve as a culture keeper of the Boys’ Latin mission.
- Support students during extra- and co-curricular programming as part of the school’s award-winning Leadership Academy.
