This position performs technician level community development duties to assist the public with the submittal, review, and maintenance of development related applications and permit issuance in support of assigned projects and community development staff. Position requires substantial contact with the public and demonstrated facility with office technology. Performs directly related work as required.Community development technicians provide a critical link in the agency’s service provision. The successful candidate will be an organized, quick learner who enjoys working collaboratively. This position provides virtual meeting support for selected City appointed boards, and will be expected to staff evening board meetings once or twice per week (e.g., from 6-8 pm on a Tuesday). Due to these evening meetings, the position could be eligible for flex hours or overtime pay, to be determined in consultation with the Office Manager (supervisor).The Community Development Department offers a culture of learning and will pay for this position to become a certified Notary Public and certified ICC Permit Technician. Full-time City of Bozeman employees receive top-tier benefits including 15 vacation days, 12 sick days, 12 holidays, 8 weeks of paid paternal leave, bilingual pay, excellent retirement options, comprehensive health, dental, and vision plans, discounted ski tickets and gym memberships, and much more!Bargaining Unit: Montana Federation of Public EmployeesFair Labor Standards Act Status: Non-ExemptWork Week: Typically Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pmEvening Meetings (average 2 - 3 hours weekly)Examples of Essential Work (Illustrative Only)Gathers, assembles, updates, and/or files a variety of information, forms, records, and data as requested using traditional filing systems or databases as necessary;Maintains accurate records and files in order to properly control the processing of plans and applications to determine and disseminate requested information;Reviews public applications to ensure appropriate data is provided;Explains policies, procedures and regulations to the public, developers, business organizations, contractors, and architects;Receives, checks for completeness, and logs into filing systems applications and comments received;Tracks plan submittals, routes, and issues permits;Processes applications, licenses or other documents related to departmental operations as required;Answers multi-line phone system, receives and greets visitors;Catalogues and maintains official documents for public access;Schedules and tracks planning and building related inspections;May assist in providing administrative support to Planning Board, Zoning Commission, Design Review Board, Community Affordable Housing Advisory Board, Historic Preservation Advisory Board, Impact Fee Advisory Committee, the City Commission, and other advisory boards as needed;Provides administrative support in relation to technical program requirements and prepares specialized reports and correspondence as required;Calculates and verifies valuations and fees and assists in the processing of impact fees;Receives cash for designated items, makes appropriate change and reconciles cash drawers; Determines client needs and provides relevant information as needed;May assist in reviewing schedule for projects, including report deadlines, meeting dates, public notices and newspaper deadlines based upon adopted regulations;Maintains printed documents and handouts;May review and process accounts payable; Enters departmental invoices;May distribute incoming mail to appropriate personnel; processes and orders office supplies, including maintaining an efficient inventory of necessary supplies and materials;May schedules appointments, organizes meetings and conferences, supports Community Development related advisory boards;May aid in setting up staff travel and training;Copies, packages, and distributes a variety of written materials as requested;Provides assistance in effective implementation of Community Development Department policies;Responds to citizens' questions and comments in a courteous and timely manner;Communicates and coordinates regularly with appropriate others to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of interdepartmental operations and activities;Provides needed information and demonstrations concerning how to perform certain work tasks to new employees in the same or similar class of positions;Keeps immediate supervisor and designated others fully and accurately informed concerning work progress, including present and potential work problems and suggestions for new or improved ways of addressing such problems;Attends meetings, conferences, workshops and training sessions and reviews publications and audio-visual materials to become and remain current on the principles, practices and new developments in assigned work areas;Performs other duties consistent with the role and function of the classification.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Associate's degree in Public Administration, Business Management, or closely related field;Minimum of 3 years of experience in planning or construction administrative, customer service, or a closely related field; ORAny combination of equivalent experience and training which provides the scope of knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Must obtain a valid Montana Driver's License within 60 days of employment; Possession of ICC Permit Technician Certification or ability to obtain such within 6 months of hire. Possession of Montana Notary Public or ability to obtain such within 6 months of hire. Offers for employment are conditional upon satisfactory response to appropriate post conditional offer process.
