The City of Bozeman is now accepting applications for Streets Operators to join the Transportation & Engineer Department. The Streets Operator will perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled work focusing on the construction, maintenance, and repair of City of Bozeman streets. The principal duties of this class are performed in an outdoors environment with possible exposure to a variety of terrains, weather conditions, hazardous waste, and airborne pathogens. If assigned to Streets maintenance: • Provides for the maintenance and repairs of City streets and roadways, including preparing road surfaces for patching or overlay, paving, and repairing pot holes, slide spots, and sink holes as necessary;• Digs, shovels, hauls, and unloads soils, backfill, and other materials; • Constructs, maintains, and repairs City streets; • Maintains City streets in the winter months to ensure safe and efficient traveling conditions for both pedestrians and vehicles, including plowing and sanding streets, and steam spraying for ice removal;• Cleans and repairs storm and sewer manholes, lines, and intakes, including flushing out silt and garbage from sewer manholes, digging up damaged storm sewer lines and replacing pipe as necessary; • Maintains the City's alley rights-of-way as necessary, including, trimming, collecting and hauling brush, compost, or recyclables piles; • Provides year-round creek maintenance to ensure the maintenance of safe water levels, including keeping creek free of debris, and chopping ice in the winter months as necessary;• Installs, maintains, and repairs street and traffic signs, and paints traffic markings, such as crosswalks, arrows, and yellow curbs as necessary. If assigned to Sign/Signal Operator (within Streets Division): • Makes, installs, and repairs regulatory and non-regulatory signs;• Paints crosswalks, turn lanes, lane markings and curbs;• Operates utility lift truck and other street department equipment;• Assists with street closures for utility work and/or public assemblies;• Operates heavy equipment and/or vehicles to remove snow from sidewalks on public property and other snow removal assistance in support of the streets department;• Maintains traffic signals, luminaires, including minor electrical repairs;• Maintains all departmental equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation;• Enters data into the City's computerized maintenance management systems.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
High School Diploma or GED; andSome (1-3 years) related maintenance experience; 1-3 years of experience in the operation and maintenance of heavy equipment, machinery, and power/hand tools, ORAny combination of experience and training which provides the equivalent scope of knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work.DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: At least one year of experience with concrete/asphalt;At least one year of experience with computers (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and database management systems preferred);Class A CDL
