Full-time position available. Schedule TBD. Varied hours, including mornings and evenings. One weekend day required. Wage DOE.
Purpose: Direct and manage operations and department managers within the Front End, Grocery and Caf departments at Co-op West Main (CWM) to meet objectives for sales, margins, labor, and customer service.
Specific Responsibilities of CWM Retail Service Manager
- Ensure efficient and effective flow of daily operations within and among the Front End, Grocery and Caf departments at CWM.
- Provide motivation, direction and feedback to direct reports; ensure standards for service, product quality and productivity are met within departments of oversight.
- Ensure consistency of accountability practices within departments.
- Regularly meet with direct reports regarding development, financial goals, department(s) appearance, customer service, and personnel issues.
- Work with direct reports to document and implement effective standard operating and training procedures, development plans and other identified priorities.
- Oversee coverage emergencies along with manager(s) on duty; fill shifts as needed for emergencies.
- Be well versed and up to date on Store Solutions and handling retail floor emergencies.

Collaborate with others throughout the organization to ensure ongoing effective systems and procedures.
- Work with the Security Specialist to maintain security of building, equipment, inventory, staff, and customers, including coordinating Loss Prevention training for staff.
- Assist Purchasing and Merchandising Manager, Marketing Manager, and Scan/IT Manager to support advertising programs, promotions, quarterly inventory and special events for CWM.
- Work with Front End, IT, and/or Finance to maintain all IT systems, including the POS system, and improve accurate systems; monitor and coach staff on cash over/shorts and ensure security and accuracy of cash.
- Work with Food Service departments to ensure caf operations meet food safety standards and customer needs.
Other Responsibilities
- Cashier as necessary or allocate staff to ensure service standards are met.
- Troubleshoot equipment breakdowns; report to others who need to know or help; prioritize proper functioning and prompt repairs to point of sale.
- Other duties as directed.
- Experience managing staff in a retail setting required.
- Demonstrated experience in the analysis of financial reports desired.
- Time management skills sufficient to independently establish priorities and complete tasks effectively.
- Fluency using MS Office required particularly in Word, Excel, and Outlook, with skills sufficient to communicate and develop and maintain documents with a high degree of accuracy.
- Alcohol sales and Food Safety certification (may be obtained upon hire).
- Ability to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the business; some early mornings, evenings, holidays, and weekend shifts are required.
- Ability to lift up to 30 lbs. throughout shift, occasionally 50 lbs.
- Ability to stand for long periods and to bend and twist repeatedly; ability to lift product overhead and/or to climb ladders with product.
