Position Overview:
As a Fleet Maintenance Technician, you will be responsible for performing advanced diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance on all the tractor, trailers etc. within the Fleet Maintenance Department. This role requires expertise in all trailer systems and the ability to mentor and lead junior technicians. You will be responsible for ensuring all repairs are documented and aligned with OSHA – state and federal policies as well as company policies to drive a safe working environment and culture.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performing inspections, diagnostics, and repairs of Reefer trailers and lift gates – reporting to leadership for additional repairs
Completing all necessary paperwork, equipment inspection forms, and other documents accurately and timely, using professional verbiage
Performing basic soldering and welding skills
Using air-powered equipment when necessary
Assist in cleaning and maintaining a safe working environment including the facilities and service vehicles
Inspect, diagnose, and replace all brake, electrical, wheel end, liftgate, suspension, and load support components
Diagnose and repair ABS system
Refer engine component repairs (excluding refrigeration unless a 608 certification is provided)
Inspect, diagnose, and repair minor overhead door components
Perform all duties with little to no supervision
Inspect, diagnose, and replace all brake, electrical, wheel end, liftgate, suspension, and load support components
Minor body repair, Inc. but not limited to panel replacement, side rail repair, and welding of steel and aluminum
Inspect, diagnose, and repair all overhead door components
Crossmember replacement
Full Landing Gear removal and replacement
Diagnose and repair ABS system
All Refer engine component repairs
Performing diagnostic tests on diesel engines and related systems
Troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues
Conducting repairs on engines, transmission systems, exhaust systems, brakes systems, hydraulic systems and electrical components
Carrying out regular maintenance tasks such as oil changes, filter replacements and tire rotations
Maintaining records of maintenance and repairs
Replacing or repairing defective parts using hand tools, gauges, and testing equipment
Performing basic soldering and welding skills
Using air powered equipment when necessary
Perform all duties under no supervision
Major Suspension overhaul, including but not limited to, full removal and overhaul of bogie assembly and components
Lead by example, mentor and develop associates in a lower classification
Perform Leadership responsibilities as assigned by Management team
Assist in cleaning and maintaining a safe working environment in the shop
Flexibility to work various or additional shifts, as needed including evenings, weekends, and holidays
Perform other duties as assigned by leadership
Environment:
Work environment will vary with temperature
Primarily in a shop environment with occasional outdoor work
Schedule:
2nd shift
2:00pm - 10:30pm
Days TBD; One weekend day required
OR
3rd shift
9:00pm - 5:30am
Days TBD; One weekend day required
Experience:
Preferred: Five (5) - Seven (7) years technical experience or related field – Automotive or Industrial Equipment
Required: Federal Annual Inspection Certificate 40 CFR pt.396.19 & Brake Inspection Certificate 49 CFR pt. 396.25
Required: 608 Technician Certification & 609 Technician Certification
Own and Maintain up to date tools of the trade
Preferred: Proficiency in English (written and verbal) to effectively communicate with associates and leadership
Skills:
Physical abilities: May be required to lift up to 80-85lbs.; standing, bending, lifting and twisting for up to 90% of your shift; frequently lifting product from various heights including floor level to over your head; Ability to stand or walk at least 10 hours daily; working in various temperature controlled environments; the ability to operate required material handling equipment – getting on and off equipment throughout shift
Strong communication Skills: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with peers and leaders on a daily basis
Organizational Skills: Ability to fulfill customer orders in a timely manner; ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
