Job Description
The Coke Expert Technologist is a key role within the Supply, Trading & Shipping Research & Technology Group. This position is responsible for providing technical support and guidance on all matters related to green coke and calcined coke production.
Main Responsibilities
- In-depth technical support for green and calcined coke operations, clean carbon projects, coke quality assurance, and safe use of BP coke.
- Own BP coke quality prediction models and develop tools to support crude-to-coke optimizations.
- Lead technology support for green coke and calcined coke production: Troubleshoot coke quality problems and enable continuous improvement.
This involves providing coke quality leadership, working with Quality Control Specialists to develop effective QA/QC processes, tools, and databases that ensure on-spec coke shipments at optimum cost.
The role also includes supporting commercial growth agendas, third-party supplies (e.g., calciner expertise for BP calcines tolling operations), forecasting quality, evaluating new coke opportunities, and supporting novel carbon products that fit BP coke production.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science or Advanced Degree in Engineering, Chemistry, or Science.
- ~5 years of experience in refining process engineering and quality control.
- Data base, process modeling, and/or project experiences desired.
This position requires advanced digital skills in Access, Excel programming, data analysis, deep knowledge of quality assurance processes and statistics, fluency in English, strong communication and interpersonal skills, flexibility to support operations globally, and willingness to travel.
