Job Overview
The position requires the ability to perform and interpret molecular cloning and protein expression experiments. The successful candidate will be tasked with duties in molecular biology, cell culture and transfection techniques. These include standard cloning, PCR techniques, and plasmid preparation and analysis. The primary expression systems of focus will be mammalian and E. coli, but the candidate may also assist with the HEK293 or SF9 expression if needed. This position will include assisting other researchers with their experiments and with lab maintenance. This position will also be required to perform QC assays such as cell based, ELISA, Flow Cytometry and immuno-magnetic cell isolation assays.
Responsibilities:
- Assist other researchers with various tasks, including aid in experiments, data entry, sample storage, organization, and ordering.
- Recombinant protein expression in E. coli (HEK293 and SF9 if needed) while maintaining sterility, preparation, organization, and storage of virus and cells for expression.
- Accurate design and generation of genes of interest for cloning; analyze and confirm DNA sequence of recombinant plasmid for proper protein expression
- Maintain supply stocks for the common lab area including reagents, DNA, equipment, and consumables.· Perform internet searches to gather relevant information, record and present any relevant findings in a manner pursuant to facility protocol.
- Prepare reagents and solutions as needed. Prepare documentations for project validation and research quality control; keep an updated database record with project details and information.
- Ensure lab cleanliness and safety by maintaining equipment and technician attire, and keeping all samples properly labeled and stored.
- Perform QC and assembly of kit components including those for immune-magnetic cell isolation and cell cytotoxicity assay kits.
- Recombinant protein expression, as well as preparation of cultures, reagents, and competent cells for expression.
- Accurate design and generation of genes of interest for cloning; analyze and confirm DNA sequence of recombinant plasmid for proper protein expression.
- Ensures lab cleanliness and safety by maintaining equipment and technician attire, and keeping all samples properly labeled and stored.
- Maintains supply stocks for the common regarding area including reagents, DNA, equipment, and consumables; communicates with sales representatives for appropriate pricing.
- Prepares reagents and solutions as needed.
- Handles documentation needed for project validation and research quality control; keeps an updated database record with project details and information.
- Performs internet searches to gather relevant information, record and present any relevant findings in a manner pursuant to facility protocol.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant Life Sciences field
- Good communication, interpersonal, and teamworking skills are essential
- Minimum of 2-4 years of experience working in a molecular biology or biochemistry lab in either industry or academia.
- Hands on experiences in recombinant protein expression, molecular cloning, cell culture, and protein characterization assays are required.
- Experiences in Flow cytometry and immune-magnetic cell isolation is a plus.
