What are the responsibilities and job description for the Litigation Specialist position at BQ & Associates?
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide legal support activities under the direction of firm attorney(s) to include:
- Prepare lawsuit documents for filing with the court(s).
- Determine and request direction for summons services.
- Prepare default judgments.
- Review debtor responses and/or answers to court(s) to determine next action.
- Prepare discovery.
- Prepare cases for post judgment actions.
- Prepare garnishments, including tracking the case for next action.
- Review and monitor non-paying accounts for future actions.
- Maintain confidentiality of clients, firm information, cases, staff and contacts.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience Requirements:
- High School diploma or equivalent required. Associate’s preferred.
- One to five years of civil ligation experience.
- Working knowledge of the South Dakota Court system would be helpful.
- Must be able to pass background check (credit/criminal) and 10 panel drug test.
Knowledge/Skills:
- Firm understanding of FDCPA, FTC, and other collection regulations would be helpful
- Excellent phone etiquette
- Excellent verbal communication skills
- Punctual
- Knowledge of MS office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and other programs related to courts and collections
- Knowledge of legal terminology and judicial processes
- Ability to build relationships
