The Secondary School Music Teacher will faithfully support Bradenton Christian School’s mission statement to prepare the hearts and minds of God’s covenantal children in partnership with the home and church for service in God’s world. It is the Secondary School Music Teacher’s responsibility to carry out the policies of the School Board as they relate to the function of the school, to the classroom, and to their association with students and parents.
Summary:
The Secondary School Music Teacher will be responsible for implementing a comprehensive music curriculum aligned with the school’s mission and values while fostering students’ love for music and worship.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Establishes a developmentally appropriate, positive, and safe learning environment while teaching subject matter that encourages students to develop and fulfill their spiritual and academic potential.
- Develops respectful and trusting relationships with each individual student, facilitates opportunities for spiritual, academic, and behavioral growth from a Christ centered Biblical worldview.
- Implements the school’s curriculum, which is designed to cultivate a deep appreciation for music, while developing technical music skills and creative expression.
- Creates a culture of worship and spiritual formation through direct musical vocal, instrumental and/or orchestral instruction and performance.
- Instructs students in foundational musical theory with an emphasis on musical excellence; creates a path for advanced musicians and challenges students to pursue a deeper understanding of music appreciation.
- Coordinates participation and preparation of performers including beginners, intermediate, advanced, soloists, ensembles in performance/competition, FMEA, MPA and/or FOA activities.
- Develops and implements differentiated learning strategies to meet the needs of multiple learning styles present in the classroom.
- Leads ensemble rehearsals and performances, such as choir, band, or orchestra.
- Provides individualized instruction to students to help them improve their musical skills.
- Maintains an organized and safe learning environment for students.
- Maintains required paperwork for individual student files, attendance and incident reports, and other necessary records.
- Assesses student progress and provides feedback on their performance and skills development; communicates regularly with parents to provide updates on student progress and encourages involvement in music education.
- Builds and maintains positive relationships with parents, school leadership, and fellow teachers through consistent communication and collaboration.
- Enforces safety and security standards for students, staff, and visitors.
- Participates in faculty meetings, educational conferences, in-service opportunities, workshops, and other training seminars.
- Develops and maintains knowledge of research, developments, and best practices in education.

Required Skills/Abilities:
- A clearly articulated testimony of personal faith in Jesus Christ as Savior along with weekly in-person attendance in a Christian church.
- A clear understanding of and support for covenantal Christian education along with a desire to lead students in the development of a Christian worldview.
- Bachelor’s degree or in Fine Arts, Music Education, or a related field, Master’s degree preferred. Eligible for a FL Teaching Certificate.
- A minimum of three years of experience as fine arts administrator with proven expertise and teaching experience in one or more of the following areas, vocal music, instrumental music, or orchestral music.
- Strong knowledge of visual arts, music, and theater, and a passion for promoting artistic expression in students.
- Demonstrated proficiency in music theory, composition, and performance.
- Proven experience with event planning/coordination and working within budget parameters.
- Experience with FOA District and State Solo & Ensemble and other MPA events.
- Knowledge of state, district, and FMEA policies governing band activities.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders and build strong, positive relationships within the school community.
- Must be a team player with a desire to help and serve others.
- Working knowledge of MS Office Suite.
- Must be able to lift 25 pounds at times.
