What are the responsibilities and job description for the Veterinary Assistant position at Bradenton Veterinary Hospital?
Bradenton Veterinary Hospital is not only located minutes away from beautiful downtown Bradenton, but also just 12 minutes to the beach! We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated team member to join us. As a vital member of our veterinary team, you will work closely with all of the veterinarians as well as the other team members to provide high-quality care to our animal patients.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in the examination and treatment of animals by restraining them safely and providing comfort
- Observe and record vital signs, behavior and physical condition of the animals, reporting any changes to the veterinary team
- Support veterinarians during examinations, surgeries and diagnostic procedures, ensuring all necessary equipment is prepared and sterile
- Collect and prepare laboratory samples (blood, urine, feces) for analysis and perform basic laboratory tests as needed
- Communicate effectively with pet owners, providing information on treatment plans, medications and follow-up care
- Administer medications and vaccinations as directed by veterinarians and provide education to clients on proper administration
- Ensure cleanliness and organization of treatment areas, exam rooms, kennels and adhering to sanitation protocols
- Maintain accurate and detailed medical records for each patient including treatments, medications and observations. Experience with AviMark a plus.
SKILLS
- Previous experience as a veterinary assistant or related field
- Strong ability to handle and restrain a variety of animals safely and compassionately
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective interactions with clients and team players – bi-lingual in Spanish is not mandatory but requested
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Capability to perform physically demanding tasks, including being able to lift a 50 lb. animal

Pay: $18.00 - $23.00 per hour
