Position Summary:
The Operating Room Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations, quality oversight, and staff supervision of the Surgery Department. This position ensures delivery of safe, high-quality surgical services in compliance with hospital policies, regulatory standards, and evidence-based nursing practices. The Operating Room Manager works collaboratively with surgeons, anesthesiologists, surgical technologists, and other members of the perioperative team to optimize patient outcomes and staff performance.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Directs and manages the daily clinical operations of the Surgery Department, including pre-op, intra-op, PACU, and sterile processing functions.
- Develops, implements, and evaluates policies and procedures to ensure safe surgical care and regulatory compliance.
- Oversees nursing staff schedules, assignments, and productivity to ensure optimal staffing ratios and efficient patient flow.
- Ensures proper documentation and charging practices for surgical services, including capturing non-routine supplies and use of implants.
- Coordinates with the Central Sterile team to ensure instruments are appropriately processed and available.
- Facilitates onboarding, training, and continuing education for nursing staff and scrub techs.
- Promotes a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous quality improvement in the surgical environment.
- Collaborates with the Quality and Compliance teams to track surgical outcomes, infection rates, surgical site complications, and performance metrics.
- Participates in budget preparation and monitors supply usage and staffing costs to remain within departmental budget.
- Coordinates and participates in surgical team huddles, QAPI meetings, and performance review initiatives.
- Leads root cause analyses and contributes to patient safety efforts for surgical adverse events or near misses.
- Serves as a clinical expert and resource for all perioperative nursing staff.
- Ensures compliance with CMS, OSHA, and other regulatory requirements.
- Management of surgical outpatient clinic.
Qualifications:
- Current RN license in the State of Arkansas, in good standing.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required.
- Minimum 1 year Surgery (perioperative) nursing experience required; 1–2 years of leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
- BLS and ACLS certifications required.
- Strong knowledge of surgical workflows, supply management, infection control, and staff development.
- Proven leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Work Conditions:
- Primary work setting is within surgical and perioperative care areas.
- May require prolonged periods of standing, walking, and lifting.
- May be required to respond to after-hours emergencies or participate in call coverage rotation.
