JOB SUMMARY
A Surgical Patient Care Greeter/Secretary is a medical receptionist or unit secretary who handles a range of administrative and patient-facing duties in a surgical setting. This role combines administrative tasks like scheduling, record keeping, and insurance verification with direct patient interactions, such as greeting and assisting patients before and after surgery.
- Patient Interaction: Greet patients, answer phones, take messages, and provide information.
- Record Keeping: Maintain patient charts, file paperwork, and manage electronic health records.
- Administrative Support: Manage incoming faxes, distribute mail, and assist with other administrative tasks.
- Communication: Communicate with patients, medical staff, and other healthcare providers.
- Patient Education: Provide pre-operative and post-operative instructions to patients and their families.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
A Surgical Patient Care Greeter/Secretary requires a high school diploma or equivalent, strong communication and interpersonal skills, and basic computer proficiency. Experience in a healthcare setting, including medical terminology and patient scheduling, is often preferred. Certification in medical administration or Basic Life Support (BLS) may also be advantageous.
