JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for accurate and timely preparation and submission of claims to third party carriers and intermediaries, and answering inquiries on a timely basis according to hospital written procedures; on assigned section of alphabet.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High school diploma or equivalent. One or Two years of college preferred.
Experience: Knowledge of third party payers. Minimum of 6 months experience in hospital insurance billing or one year experience with major carrier in claims processing area. One-year experience in a hospital, similar medical facility, or physicians office preferred. Overall knowledge of business office procedures and hospital policies. Type a minimum of 50 wpm. Capable of operating a 10-key calculator. Excellent communication skills.
General Responsibilities:
1. Responsible for maintenance and control of unbilled insurance file for a given section of patient accounts.
2. Reviews files daily and spot-checks final bills for accuracy.
3. Prepares and submits claims to carriers and intermediaries within 24 hours after all information is available for billing.
4. Prepares and submits a daily listing of all un-billable claims along with reasons to the Billing Supervisor or Business Office Manager by 10 am.
5. Prepares and submits daily input forms relative to billing function to data processing.
6. Prepares daily billing report.
7. Performs other duties as assigned by Billing Supervisor or Business Office Manager.
