Assistant Store Manager for Family Owned Discount Stores in NW Indiana

Location: Burr Street at 25th Ave, Hammond/Gary, IN. One block north of I-80/94 at the Burr street exit. Located in a busy retail corridor across from 2 major truck stops.

Bradys This Is It Stores is a family owned discount retailer established in 1953. We are Lake County Indiana’s original discount stores. For over 64 years we have provided Northwest Indiana residents with value driven merchandise. Our two retail stores are located next to each other and employ about 20 full and part time employees. We feature popular priced school uniforms, work uniforms and family fashions in one store and housewares, hardware & general merchandise at our other store which is a True Value Hardware Member.
General Summary of Position
As an Assistant Store Manager you will be responsible to assist the store manager to ensure we are delivering outstanding customer service. You will provide supervision to ensure the completion of assigned tasks and duties. You will assist with the efficient management of inventory and effective presentation of merchandise. You will ensure that all company policies and procedures are followed.
Duties and Essential Job Functions
- Open and close the stores under management direction.
- Assist store manager as directed in providing adequate training for employees.
- Assist with the staging, stocking and storage of merchandise.
- Receive merchandise and enter into store's POS system
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
- Ensure that merchandise is presented according to established practices and store manager direction. Ensure a clean well-stocked store for customers.
- Utilize merchandise fixtures properly including presentation, product pricing and signage.
- Follow prescribed ordering practices to ensure in-stock targets and seasonal stocking requirements.
- Knowledge and Skills
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and percentages.
- Experience with point of sale systems and report generation.
- Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Effective interpersonal and problem solving skills.
- Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
Work Experience and Education
- High School diploma or equivalent strongly preferred.
- One year of experience in a retail environment and six months supervisory experience preferred.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $16.00 - $19.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 – 43 per week
