The Engineering Manager oversees all design, engineering work, related commissioning, and performance assurance for Brady’s contracting business, in addition to self-performing engineering and design work on some projects. The mix of performing engineering/design work and fulfilling managerial/supervisory responsibilities is subject to vary over time based on staffing, project load, and other factors.
The primary supervisory and managerial duties for this position will be to oversee scope/schedule/budget for engineering projects, develop engineering skill sets and activities that align with Brady’s vertical market development strategies, continuously evaluate and implement engineering best practices, and support the sales teams’ business development and pre-construction activities. This role also ensures that accurate design (prefabrication) drawings and specifications are provided to the fabrication shop, and installation drawings are reviewed with the operations team prior to installation. This role will manage the contract, to include scope, budget, and schedule, for design, engineering, and commissioning consultants as project load, scope, and customer requirements require outside services.

Supervisory Responsibilities
- Manages and leads the Engineering team
- Oversees training and performance management; provides mentoring, coaching, disciplinary action and/or performance improvement plans when necessary; develops and manages individual development plans
- Responsibilities also include recruiting, interviewing, hiring and training new Associates on the team, assigning and directing work, appraising performance and recommending raises, and addressing complaints and resolving problems
- Managing scope, schedule and budget for individual medium to large projects, as well as groups of smaller projects
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities per the organization’s policies and applicable laws
- Has a strong working knowledge of HVAC equipment of all types, controls, chilled, condenser, and hot water piping systems, steam and condensate systems, DX systems, duct and air distribution, fire dampers, ventilation fans, insulation, electrical related to HVAC, commissioning, and test and balance
- Serves as a “player/coach” on the Engineering team by both leading and performing the engineering work required to design, develop, and deliver high-quality jobs to Brady’s customers
- Leads and develops a team that has the ability to design and propose equipment change-outs and complete new systems
- Interacts with the Estimators, Project Managers, and other roles as required – including directly with customers – to identify HVAC and process deficiencies in order to develop effective solutions to customers’ problems
- Has overall responsibility for the production and delivery of detailed installation drawings and documentation of ductwork, piping systems, controls and electrical components
- Works with customers to provide support and consultation regarding the implementation of cost saving measures and, when applicable, the application for rebates
- Provides oversight and participates in the turnover from sales to engineering for all contracting projects including design build projects, professional services projects, and equipment change out projects
- Mentors and coaches all Associates on Engineering, Development, and Preconstruction teams, with emphasis on creating and executing individual development plans for early-to-mid career Associates
- Inspects quality standards by visiting job sites and meeting with customers and vendors as needed
- Understands industry changes (e.g. code change, new technology) and responds to alternative strategies to maintain competitive advantages in our marketplace
- Responds to customer inquiries, complaints and special requests
- Interacts with other business units on warranties, contracts and other project-related issues
- Coordinates with controls engineering team to provide point-to-point control wiring diagrams for field use, as well as ensuring a written sequence of operations is provided that can be utilized for programming by field technicians
- Provides review of engineering drawings for all projects
- Works closely with fabrication shop to ensure designs are constructable and fabricated systems will meet design requirements.
- Oversees the organization and cataloging of engineering drawings
- Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local laws, legal regulations, and recommended best practices
- Collaborates with all Associates to uphold the company’s mission and values
- Must be able to work overtime/weekends, as required
- Other duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field from an accredited institution
- 5 years of engineering experience in commercial/industrial HVAC industry
- Demonstrated understanding of controls, HVAC equipment, HVAC systems, and contract administration
- Previous experience with budgeting, planning and administration skills are preferred, but not required
- Management experience is preferred but not required
- Working knowledge of computer systems (including laptops and cell phones) and software systems such as Microsoft Office products, AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, Procore and Trane TRACE system design
- Professional Engineering License (PE) in the state of North Carolina is required
- Professional Engineering License in the state of South Carolina is preferred, but not required
- Ability to pass drug screening
- Ability to prove US employment eligibility
- Must possess a valid driver’s license
