Job Overview:
The Accounting Manager, reporting to the Controller, is a critical member of the general ledger accounting team who will play an impactful role in the day-to-day accounting operations at the company. This position will be responsible for the preparation of the company’s revenue recognition calculations, recording accounting transactions, preparing and reviewing various balance sheet reconciliations, managing the accounts payable team, and driving the company’s wider finance transformation. The Accounting Manager will be an advocate for process improvement, transparency, teamwork, maintaining high quality work product within the department, and will be key to the company’s finance transformation.
Responsibilities:
- Accounting Operations: Oversee day-to-day accounting tasks, including month-end close, balance sheet reconciliations, and financial reporting.
- Revenue Recognition & Job Costing: Prepare and calculate construction project revenue recognition and job costing in accordance with ASC 606.
- Balance Sheet Reconciliations: Review reconciliations prepared by team members, including leases (ASC 842), notes payable, and fixed assets.
- Accounts Payable Management: Manage the Accounts Payable team, ensuring accurate and timely processing of vendor payments, employee reimbursements, and accounting entries.
- Invoice & Payment Review: Review invoice batches and payment runs for accuracy and manage payments relative to cash flow.
- Process Improvement: Identify and implement automation and improvements for journal entry and accounts payable processes.
- Supplier Relations: Maintain and manage supplier relations, including vendor applications and tax forms.
- Team Support: Provide guidance and coaching to ensure high team performance.
- Audit Assistance: Assist with the annual audit.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or business administration.
- Certifications: Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
- Professional Experience: 5 years experience in an accounting role handling financial analysis and general ledger. At least 2 years in a managerial role.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of accounting principles (US GAAP), Microsoft D365, and Sage or other ERPs.
- Communication Skills: Ability to identify and articulate challenges in day-to-day accounting tasks to team leadership for process improvements.
- Financial Systems Expertise: Experience with financial systems featuring multiple reporting dimensions.
- Experience in Large Companies: Worked at companies with revenues over $300M
- Process Improvement: Involvement in accounting department transformations and/or designing and implementing process improvements.
- ASC 606: Knowledge of ASC 606 revenue recognition for construction services contracts.
Work Environment
- Location: Ability to work in our Corporate Headquarters in Long Beach, CA.
- Physical Demands: Standard office environment with prolonged periods of sitting and computer use. May occasionally require standing or moving between office areas.
