Job Description
PALLET SORTER - Odessa, TX
We are seeking a Pallet Sorter to join our Odessa, TX team, working inside the Family Dollar Distribution Center. If you have 1 year stable work experience, are comfortable with repetitive heavy lifting in a fast-paced environment (you will sweat and get dirty), have a strong work ethic and a desire to learn, a Pallet Sorter position with CHEP could be a great fit! This is a great opportunity for someone who wants the opportunity to learn and grow in a new career. Training will be provided for not only pallet sorting but also forklift operation.

Position Purpose:
The Sorter position is responsible for sorting pallets by hand for grading as they flow from the loading dock, production line and throughout the facility. This position involves tandem sorting that requires high collaboration with other team members. May leverage hand tools to remove nails or debris from pallets. You will also be trained for the safe and efficient operation of a forklift to supply and retrieve pallets or materials within the facility, which may lead to a future promotion. This role will involve making decisions to optimize material movement and contribute to the overall efficiency of the team.
Major/Key Accountabilities:
Pallet Sorting
- Sort pallets as they are moved from loading docks to sort line/area.
- Removes debris and trash from pallets.
- Determines which pallets require repairs.
Material Handling & Forklift Operation (will train):
- Operate the forklift to efficiently move pallets and materials throughout the plant facility.
- Moves levers and presses pedals to drive truck and control movement of lifting apparatus. Positions forks, lifting platform, or other lifting device under, over, or around loaded pallets and transports load to designated area.
- Conduct inspection of the forklift prior to operating, promptly reporting issues to maintenance team for resolution.
Loading and Unloading:
- Assist in loading and unloading trucks with pallets or materials using the forklift, ensuring proper placement and securement of items.
Safety and Compliance:
- Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines.
- Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment daily.
- Report any safety hazards or concerns to supervisors immediately.
- Maintain awareness of pedestrian and vehicle traffic in the work area.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Previous experience working in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to complete task within a timely manner with high attention to detail.
- Ability to understand and communicate information is essential.
- Ability to work independently in a team environment is essential.
- Previous experience working in an industrial, fast paced environment with industrial equipment is preferred.

Physical Requirements:
