The part-time Police Sergeant manages and supervises campus police, security staff, and parking monitors, ensuring effective and efficient operations to uphold the department’s mission of providing a safe and secure environment for all students, faculty, staff, and visitors. This role is critical for providing supervisory coverage during weekends and supporting emergency management needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise police officers, security staff, parking monitors, and potentially student workers. Administer routine assignments and ensure the safety of the Brandeis community. Provide leadership and decision-making during after-hours, weekends, and holidays, including emergencies and facility issues. (45%)
- Coordinate criminal investigations, collaborating with Massachusetts trial courts and other police departments. (10%)
- Oversee and ensure accuracy of written reports and logs for all events within the Brandeis community. Triage and log calls, notifying appropriate personnel based on the situation. (10%)
- Assist with filling shift coverage, event assignments, and weekly staff rosters. (10%)
- Maintain and oversee the campus alarm system for optimal security. (10%)
- Implement and lead crime prevention initiatives and community policing programs. (10%)
- Supervise the maintenance of roadways for emergency vehicle access. (5%)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Relevant experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Emergency management
- Accreditation processes
- Community policing
- B.A./B.S. preferred.
- 3-5 years of work experience in law enforcement or public safety.
- Police Academy graduate and ability to meet State Police requirements for obtaining Special State Police Officer powers.
- Current license to carry firearms.
- Certification in First Responder, CPR, CJIS, Sexual Assault Investigation, and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention.
Physical/Environmental Demands:
This position requires mobility, physical exertion, and the ability to operate equipment safely under various environmental conditions, including exposure to weather extremes and physical risks.
