What are the responsibilities and job description for the Temp Course Developer position at Brandeis University?
Brandeis University invites applications for the Hornstein Jewish Professional Leadership Program to develop OHRNS 230 : Global Jewry starting in the spring semester of 2025. This is a required course in the Online Master of Arts in Jewish Professional Leadership program. In addition to developing this course, there is an opportunity to become the primary instructor for this course, which is scheduled to run in 2026. All course developers are required to complete the Brandeis Online Learning to Teach Online module series as part of the course design process.
OHRNS 250 : Global Jewry, 2 credits
This course will delve into the unique history and makeup of global Jewry and the respective communal structures and community organizations that support these communities across the world. The course will explore current communal realities and needs of different Jewish communities, including distinct Ashkenazi, Sephardic, Mizrahi migrations undergone throughout the 20th Century. Among the components of the course are the unique ways Zionism and a connection to Israel exhibits in different Jewish communities, the unique pathway through which philanthropy has developed, as well as how trends of migration and outmigration have shaped different Jewish communities. These factors will be examined as they hold important implications for evolving US Jewish communities and a modern condition of transnational Jewish peoplehood.
Background and Requirements
Brandeis Online course developers are active practitioners in the industries that align with our programs and have the professional expertise to bring to course design. Instructors are part time and work remotely, with no requirement to appear on campus, but must be located in New England, New York State or California. All courses are taught asynchronously, but require faculty to be available for live office hours and to provide student feedback throughout the semester. Our faculty have earned at least a master's degree with many holding terminal academic degrees and industry-specific credentials. Previous experience teaching online is not required; Brandeis Online offers a comprehensive training program for qualified applicants.

Develop and deliver the course according to our teaching standards, which include actively facilitating online discussions, providing relevant and timely feedback on student work, reporting grades, and discussing student issues with staff
