Description
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
A LEAD CARPENTER / JOURNEYMAN falls into the medium physical demand category and will report directly to the Foreman.
1. Provides Leadership, instruction and guidance to craft workers in work crew.
2. Provides assistance to Foreman
3. Displays a positive attitude towards Safety, Quality, Policy and Procedures.
4. Has the knowledge of and exercises all of OSHA, Brand and Customer policies at job site.
5. Complete a qualified Job Safety Plan identifying the hazards and risks and implement necessary controls.
6. Select and use proper PPE as identified on the JSP.
7. Demonstrate proper site preparation prior to scaffold erection, modification or dismantling. (housekeeping, etc)
8. Must be able to read and interpret blue prints, instructions, and other documentation or plan work activities
9. Erecting and dismantling scaffold equipment as part of a crew
Observes safe practices and use proper ladder climbing techniques
Loads, transports, and unloads materials, tools, equipment, and supplies using proper lift technique.
Putting up caution tape, flags, and hang tags on flagging
Participate and mentor crew to lead tool box talks on Safety and Performance.
Monitor and recognize behavior and health changes in team members and communicate those to management.
Complete other duties as deemed necessary by Supervisor
Promote and Build Team attitude and complete other duties as required by Supervisor.
EQUIPMENT USED TO PERFORM JOB
1. PPE (FRC free of holes, Hard Hat, Gloves, Safety Glasses, Safety Boots, etc.)
OTHER ASPECTS AND DEMANDS OF THE JOB NOT LISTED:
The ability to climb scaffold, ladders, and stairs on a repetitive basis is necessary to perform the day to day functions of a Lead
Carpenter / Journeyman. Approved training will be verified or provided prior to issuing of fall protection equipment, knowledge of fall
protection and the use of fall protection equipment (Full Body Harness with Shock Absorbing Lanyard) is critical for working safely at
elevation.
Lead Carpenter / Journeyman should also have extensive knowledge of system, and tube and clamp scaffold equipment. They
must also be able to tie appropriate knots as they pertain to hoisting and rigging scaffold components. (Bowline, timber hitch &
clove hitch) Other Lead Carpenter / Journeyman duties may include;
1. Receiving and returning material to scaffold yard/lay-down.
2. Knowledge of quality control checks and inspections.
3. Knowledge of scaffold hand signals.
4. Knowledge of material handling techniques.
5. Basing out and erecting scaffold towers, hangers and cantilevers
6. Installing toe boards, guardrails, ladders, etc. on scaffold towers and cantilevers
7. Perform general laborer duties which pertain to the scaffold trade.
8. Supervise apprentices to ensure adherence to the applicable scaffold erection, modification and dismantle procedures
QUALIFICATIONS
1. High school diploma or GED, preferred
2. Bilingual Communication preferred
3. Driver requirements in accordance with Brand Vehicle Policy, if required
4. Must have 4 years of experience in the scaffold craft
5. Must pass Brand’s skills assessment
6. Must possess NCCER Certification Plus as a Scaffold Builder (SCFB31)
7. Must be willing to become a qualified Brand Mentor within 6 months from date of hire or complete the customer short service
8. Based on customer requirements, may be able to pass an extensive background check
9. Some computer skills may be required
