Technology Operations Manager II
Title: Technology Operations Manager II
Department: Technology
Position Overview:
The Technology Operations Manager II plays a critical role in designing, installing, maintaining, and supporting the district’s information systems infrastructure. This includes server and virtualization environments, enterprise applications, endpoint management, backup solutions, and media technology systems. The role also provides Tier 3 technical support to IT staff and end users, contributes to strategic planning, and ensures the security, reliability, and performance of all major systems. This is a full time, 12-month position.
Supervision Received: Reports to the Director of Technology Operations
Salary Range: $89,000 - $104,000
Primary Responsibilities:
Systems and Infrastructure Management
- Administer and maintain network servers, virtual infrastructure (VMware/Hyper-V), SANs, endpoint protection, and backup systems (e.g., Veeam)
- Support and manage Windows and Mac OS environments; Active Directory, Group Policy, software deployment, and Exchange/Office 365
- Support staff and student provisioning
- Monitor and maintain LAN/WAN/Wi-Fi infrastructure including VLANs, switches, firewalls, cellular data devices, digital phones, and VoIP systems
- Provide input on the design and implementation of technology-equipped classrooms, meeting spaces, and learning environments
- Ensure optimal performance and availability of network services including DNS, DHCP, HTTP, FTP, SMTP, and more
- Develop and propose a strategic IT maintenance and lifecycle management plan.
- Support security system, Verkada, for infrastructure and potential user training
Project Management and Evaluation
- Serve as the technical lead for infrastructure and systems-related projects
- Coordinate project tasks across internal teams and external vendors
- Research and assess emerging technologies and develop proposals for adoption aligned with district goals
Security and Data Integrity
- Implement cybersecurity best practices to protect data, systems, and infrastructure
- Manage and evaluate data backup solutions and disaster recovery readiness.
- Patch Management of Servers and end user workstations
- Educate staff and promote safe technology use in accordance with privacy laws and district policy
End User and Technical Staff Support
- Provide Tier 3 technical support and act as a mentor/resource to IT department staff
- Manage and resolve escalated issues via the district’s ticketing system
- Deliver and support technical training opportunities for IT staff and end users
Audio/Visual Systems Support
- Set up, operate, and troubleshoot audio/visual equipment for district-wide events and functions
- Support integrated A/V systems (e.g., video conferencing, public address, presentation systems)
- Perform video/audio duplication and editing using Adobe Premiere and/or Final Cut Pro.
- Expertise in Dante and NDI systems is required
- Coordinate and support Board of Education meetings including recording, live streaming to the BPS website, and providing streams to BCTV for public access
Minimum Qualifications:
- Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency with Windows and Mac OS, VMware/Hyper-V, SAN management, Exchange/Office 365, Active Directory, Group Policy, and enterprise backup platforms
- Network Knowledge: Strong understanding of TCP/IP networking, VLANs, security protocols, and network performance monitoring tools
- Soft Skills: Excellent communication, leadership, problem-solving, and organizational abilities. Strong ability to manage multiple projects and adapt to shifting priorities
Education & Experience:
- Associates Degree plus 5 years of progressively responsible IT experience
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- Relevant certifications such as MCSE, Cisco, CompTIA Network are a plus
- Must be able to travel between school buildings as needed (CT driver’s license preferred)
- Must be available and coordinate coverage for after-hours support for events and mission-critical updates
- Other duties as assigned
