The Subcontractor Default Protection (SDP) program Risk Engineer plays a critical role in evaluating, managing, and mitigating risks associated with subcontractor claims. This position involves working closely with project teams to ensure effective risk management practices are integrated into challenging subcontract execution strategies.

The Subcontractor Default Protection (SDP) program Risk Engineer plays a critical role in evaluating, managing, and mitigating risks associated with subcontractor claims. This position involves working closely with project teams to ensure effective risk management practices are integrated into challenging subcontract execution strategies.
Responsibilities and Essential Duties include the following (other duties may be assigned):
- Conduct thorough assessments of subcontractor breach and default situations including operational capacity, cost, quality, and schedule analysis
- Develop and implement risk management strategies and protocols specific to Subcontractor Default Insurance (SDI) and surety bond claims
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including project managers and legal teams, to ensure comprehensive risk mitigation strategies are in place
- Serve as Risk representative to project teams for claim related topics
- Guide project teams in documentation strategy to support pending or active claims
- Monitor subcontractor information to identify early warning signs of potential default, implementing corrective actions as necessary
- Review data for assessing subcontractor emerging trends and history with active and closed claim situations
- Coordinate with project teams for site inspections involving the Risk department
- Communicate with SDP Underwriters on relevant subcontractor information and provide guidance or suggestions based on operational observations
- Stay current on industry trends, insurance products, and regulatory changes affecting subcontractor default management
- Partner with project teams, Legal, and/or outside consultants to evaluate responsibility of different parties in a claim situation
- Perform similar duties noted above for other insurance products, including property and casualty claims
Education - Skills - Knowledge - Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Construction Management, Engineering, Risk Management, or a related field
- 7-10 years of construction industry experience, risk management experience preferred
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex data to make informed decisions
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proven ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships
- Ability to excel in a fast-paced environment where critical thinking and strong problem-solving skills are required for success
- Customer service mindset and approach
- Proven ability to function in a self-directed environment
