Purpose: The Assistant Bookkeeper is responsible for performing, in an efficient and accurate manner, all
bookkeeping functions, clerical functions and other duties. Also backs up Bookkeeper
when necessary.
Customer Service:
- Assists internal and external customers with questions in a prompt and courteous manner.
- Consistently pays suppliers within terms.
- Takes initiative with daily tasks.

- Handles all equipment in a safe manner.
- Alert to unsafe equipment and removes any equipment that is unsafe from usage.

- Contributes constructively to the morale of the department.
- Shows initiative in solving issues and achieving the departmental goals.
Job Specific Functions:
- Assists with the Bookkeeper functions as necessary.
- Enters vendor invoices using QuickBooks.

Pay vendors by monitoring discount opportunities, scheduling and preparing checks, resolving purchase order, and invoice or
payment discrepancies. - Record journal entries.
- Reconciles processed work by verifying entries and balancing to system reports.

Record the daily deposit activity using reports from the POS system into QuickBooks and reconciles deposit records to the daily
batch. -
Reviews invoices for proper charging of Sales and Use Taxes. Records and submits Use Tax to State of Vermont if not charged
by vendor as appropriate. - Prepares internal reports for management.
- Verifies vendor accounts by reconciling monthly statements.
- Assists with maintaining member load records if necessary.
- Assist with timely payments of taxes.
- Maintains file.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Minimum of 3 years of General Finance experience.
- Understanding of basic accounting principles.
- Computer literacy, proficiency with QuickBooks, Excel spreadsheets, word processing, email.
- Complete understanding of "double entry" bookkeeping concepts and principles..
- Team player
- Analytical skills.
- Comfortable with cooperative principles and values.
