Job Title: Clerk

Status: Reports to Department Manager

Purpose: To keep cheese displays fully stock and to give prompt and courteous customer service to

meet department objectives.

Customer Service:

  • Assist customers with product questions in prompt, courteous & friendly manner, referring questions to other staff if necessary.
  • Takes time to answer questions accurately.
  • Help customers place special orders. Explain discounts.
  • Respond promptly to front end requests for prices and assistance.
  • Keep aisles clear and stays out of customers way while stocking.

Product Knowledge:

  • Knowledgeable about most products in department. Continues to learn about new products.

Product Presentation and Quality:

  • See “Specific Job Functions”, below.

Maintenance and Conditioning:

  • Keep stock on shelves and coolers in clean and orderly condition. Clean shelves and racks as requested by manager.
  • Remove cardboard and trash promptly during and at end of shift.
  • Return equipment to assigned area. Keep carts and U-boats out of customer's way and don't block traffic.
  • Keep equipment in working order. Treat equipment with care and respect. Report state of building problems to manager.
  • Participate in periodic inventory and preparation as needed.
  • Keep supplies stocked in cheese area; inform manager when supplies needed.

Safety:

  • Handle hazardous equipment carefully. Aware of presence of others when using such equipment.
  • Use proper lifting techniques.
  • Wear appropriate shoes and socks, no sleeveless shirts.
  • Mindful of potential hazards to customers and other employees and takes actions to correct hazards.
  • Must wear a hat or hair net and an apron.

Teamwork:

  • Continue to work while greeting customers in a courteous manner.
  • Does own share of grungy tasks as requested by manager.
  • Looks at whole department when prioritizing tasks and completes these tasks in a timely fashion.
  • Always conscientious about co-workers and works with the team for department efficiency. Give verbal communication to next shift if necessary or written notes if urgent. .
  • Comes to work on time.
  • Takes breaks when appropriate and comes back from break on time. Let's Frontend know when going on break if by themselves in the department
  • Treat shareholders with courtesy, patience, respect. Gives clear direction with input from manager.

Accountability:

  • Accept responsibility for own actions. Exemplifies honesty, integrity and ethics.

Job Specific Functions:

  • Stock displays and coolers fully without overcrowding; face items that have been stocked; front as necessary.
  • Make sure labels are facing customers
  • Check dates and rotate older stock to front.
  • Make sure items are labelled by a shelf tag or sign.
  • Keep fair pace in cutting and wrapping by getting to most needed sections.
Requirements:

  • Ability to lift at least 50 pounds.
  • Customer service experience preferred.
  • Ability to take initiative at all times.
  • Familiar or interest in cheese and natural foods.
