What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Estimator position at Braun Construction Group?
Provide and/or coordinate full estimating services on large, complex work and all types of contracts. Has major profit and loss responsibility influencing corporate success.
1. Assist corporate and project management to determine what types of project to bid, strategies, techniques, etc.
2. Take the leading role in assigned projects and prepare studies, materials and methods, recommendations, and cost estimates as required. Tasks may include:
A. Developing a bid strategy for each project.
B. Developing quantity-based takeoffs.
C. Base project costs of specific material, equipment and labor unit prices.
D. Developing a clear definition of the scope of work.
E. Estimating direct and indirect costs including general conditions.
F. Preparation of project schedule for bid purposes.
G. Assigning appropriate scope of work to each subcontractor.
H. Reviewing documents for constructability and bid ability.
I. Reviewing bids for compliance to contract documents.
J. Identification of key scopes of work.
K. Soliciting interest from subcontractor community.
L. Pre-qualification of subcontractors
3. Review final estimate package to insure accuracy and completeness prior to formal quotation. Prepare estimate packages for formal quotation.
4. Participate in presentations to corporate management and Clients. May be responsible for closing the “sale”.
5. Assist project management during preparation of inquiries and final evaluation of submitted bids as required.
6. Conduct subcontractor pre-award meeting on all trades of awarded projects.
7. Provide value engineering input and conduct value analysis reviews on each project.
8. Provide technical assistance in negotiating contracts, change orders, etc. as required.
9. Provide technical support and/or prepare estimates as required. Assist in making the “sale”.
10. Participate in pre-bid meetings, bid strategy and presentation meetings as requested.
11. Provide complete conceptual (or bid work) and final estimating input on complex projects.
12. Tracks awarded contracts as required – may include estimating/pricing extra work items, change orders, credit, procuring materials, etc.
13. Perform additional assignments as requested by VP of Business Development, VP Operations, or President.
14. Actively market Braun Construction Group services to potential clients. Communicate potential leads to business development manager and project executive.
15. Maintain professionalism during work hours in support of Braun Construction Group's image.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Educational and experience requirements include:
Four-year engineering degree or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or related experience. Advanced management or technical training preferred. Experience in similar facility construction estimating and related functions plus thorough knowledge of corporate objectives impacting estimating, estimating strategies and techniques, and construction contracts required. Excellent organizational, supervisory and decision making/problem solving skills essential.
