Job Overview:
The Director of Volunteer Engagement will be responsible for strengthening and optimizing Braver Angels’ volunteer ecosystem. This role will identify key areas where more volunteers are needed, improve the volunteer matching process, assess training and support structures, and lead efforts to appreciate and retain volunteers. The ideal candidate is a systems thinker with a passion for volunteerism, an eye for user experience, and a deep understanding of how to support and empower volunteers.
Key Responsibilities
Volunteer Needs & Strategy: Identify all areas where different types of volunteers are needed within Braver Angels; summarize volunteer roles, including time commitments, required skills, and expectations; and develop a strategic approach to volunteer engagement.
- Matching & Recruitment: Act as central point of contact for teams to promote their volunteer needs; simplify and optimize the process for connecting interested individuals with meaningful volunteer opportunities, work with website and tech teams to ensure a positive user experience.
- Training & Support: Assess where volunteer training and support can be strengthened, implement improvements, and collaborate with relevant teams to enhance volunteer readiness.
- Appreciation & Retention: Drive initiatives to recognize, appreciate, and retain volunteers, fostering a sense of belonging and commitment within the Braver Angels community.
- System Design & Improvement: Design and refine systems for tracking, engaging, and communicating with volunteers, ensuring ease of use and effectiveness.
Collaboration & Leadership: Work closely with staff, volunteer leaders, and program teams to align volunteer engagement efforts with Braver Angels’ mission and goals.
Qualifications
Significant experience working with, supporting, and/or training volunteers in a nonprofit or community-driven setting.
- Significant experience crafting and optimizing systems with attention to user experience and interface.
- Strong organizational and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to streamline processes and improve effectiveness.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a passion for engaging and inspiring volunteers.
- Demonstrated experience with training people, ideally via Zoom/video.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
Strong commitment to the Braver Angels mission.
Prior experience with Braver Angels is desirable but not required for this position.
