Position Summary :
The Infrastructure Engineer will be responsible for managing and maintaining the infrastructure that supports SAP HANA workloads in Azure. This includes initial OS configuration, ongoing OS support, and coordination with vendors such as Microsoft, SUSE, and SAP for hardware and operating system-related escalations. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in Azure, Linux (SUSE), and cloud infrastructure operations, ensuring high availability, performance, and security of SAP HANA systems.
Key Responsibilities :
Initial OS Configuration
Configure and optimize SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) or other OS environments for SAP HANA deployments in Azure.
Collaborate with Basis teams to ensure the OS meets SAP requirements.
Implement best practices for security, performance, and scalability of OS-level infrastructure.
Ongoing OS Support
Manage OS-level patching, updates, and system hardening.
Monitor and troubleshoot OS-level issues, ensuring minimal downtime and rapid resolution.
Serve as the primary escalation point for OS support issues, working closely with SUSE and Microsoft as needed.
Server Hardware Support
Coordinate with Microsoft Azure for server hardware incidents, escalations, and performance issues.
Partner with Microsoft to resolve hardware-related outages impacting SAP HANA.
Maintain documentation of escalations and ensure transparent communication with internal teams.
Collaboration and Coordination
Work closely with the Basis team to align infrastructure changes with HANA and SAP application requirements.
Act as a liaison between internal teams and vendors (Microsoft, SUSE, SAP) for infrastructure-related issues.
Document configurations, incidents, and troubleshooting procedures for knowledge sharing and process improvement.
Monitoring and Automation
Use monitoring tools to track system health, performance, and capacity on Azure infrastructure.
Develop scripts and automation to streamline OS maintenance, monitoring, and reporting tasks.
Identify opportunities to improve infrastructure efficiency and reliability.
Qualifications : Required :
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
5 years of experience in IT infrastructure engineering, with at least 2 years supporting SAP workloads on Azure or similar cloud environments.
Strong experience with SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) or equivalent Linux distributions.
Proficiency in Azure IaaS services, including virtual machines, storage, networking, and monitoring.
Experience with OS patching, hardening, and troubleshooting in a production environment.
Understanding of SAP HANA requirements at the OS and infrastructure levels.
Preferred :
Certifications : Microsoft Azure Administrator (AZ-104), Azure Solutions Architect (AZ305), Azure for SAP Workloads Specialty (AZ-120), or SUSE Certified Administrator.
Experience working with SAP Basis teams or supporting SAP applications.
Scripting and automation skills (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, Python).
Familiarity with ITIL processes for incident, problem, and change management.
Experience implementing IaaS via Azure DevOps and / or Terraform Cloud.
