Job Summary: The Vice President of Patient Care is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating overall operations and direction across all patient care settings within assigned areas of responsibility; responsible for the organized and efficient operations of the patient care areas daily and the development of processes to promote quality, safe care, employee/patient/clinician satisfaction, budgetary compliance and identification of departmental direction. This position develops and maintains collaborative relationships between nursing, ancillary, support staff, and clinicians.


Essential Job Functions & Accountabilities

  • Directs the administrative management and integration of all departments and programs within Critical Care Services, Medical/Surgical Division of Patient Care Services, including nursing administration.
  • Collaborates with CNO and other executives to define purpose, goals, and objectives for nursing services, including input into the development of a nursing strategic plan that sets the vision for care delivery systems; establishes standards of care and standards of nursing practice.
  • Promotes creativity and innovation for patient safety and service program development and program improvement/enhancements in coordination with the leadership team. Develops, leads, supports, and actively participates in efforts to improve patient quality, safety, and service.
  • Promotes and facilitates a multidisciplinary approach to patient care and coordination of care among clinical disciplines.
  • Participates in rounds with leaders, clinicians, staff, and other personnel to improve satisfaction and delivery of quality patient care.
  • Assures that an effective quality improvement/performance improvement program is operational throughout the patient service departments and coordinates with the medical staff.
  • Ensures compliance with standards and regulations of The Joint Commission and other licensure regulating and accrediting agencies.
  • Monitor standards of patient care, nursing practice, and employee performance for consistency with policies and procedures, current nursing research, and compliance with performance improvement plans.
  • Collaborates with CNO and other nursing leaders in the development and adherence to the plan for the provision of patient care.
  • Assures nursing practice conforms to the Texas law and national specialty standards.
  • Assure standards of care align and reflect the most up-to-date evidence-based nursing practice.
  • Promotes and leads professional governance environment encouraging and supporting staff input into critical nursing practices.
  • Oversees development of annual budgets, monitors fiscal integrity of assigned departments, evaluates, and analyzes the cost-effectiveness of services, procedures, or programs being offered.
  • Develops and manages metrics that reflect financial, service, quality, and overall performance of nursing; uses metrics to demonstrate and improve operating efficiencies.
  • Manages nursing leadership and employee performance and addresses problems by providing employees with feedback on an ongoing basis identifying ways to further develop skills and ensuring an understanding of performance expectations and skills to perform their jobs effectively.
  • Manages the operation of nursing services, including determining the types and numbers of nursing personnel and staff necessary to provide nursing care for areas of responsibility.
  • Collaborates with other leaders in the organization to meet the needs of patients.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration or related field of study.
  • 5 plus years of progressive nursing leadership experience in an acute hospital setting.
  • 3 plus years of senior-level nursing experience.
  • Current licensure by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas or proof of reciprocity of licensure between the State of Texas and another state.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2 plus years of experience in a public hospital and a teaching hospital.

Salary : $250 - $275
