Job Description

General Summary :

Reviews, audits, and monitors expenditures of county departments; reconciles accounts payable statements; assists in reviewing payment authorizations; and performs general administrative duties.

Essential Duties :

  • Responsible for reviewing, auditing, and monitoring expenditures of county departments for compliance with applicable policies and procedures;
  • Responsible for reconciling accounts payable statements from vendors, including researching credit balances or past due accounts and follow-up as necessary;
  • Responsible for having a working knowledge of all county contractual agreements;
  • Responsible for assisting the First Assistant county auditor with all research and analyses;
  • Performs general administrative duties, to include, taking messages, answering or directing inquiries, typing letters and other correspondence, faxing documents, making copies, and printing reports as required;

Responsible for insuring that all documents received by the auditor's office are properly date stamped, to include : incoming mail, requisitions, purchase orders, payment authorizations, travel reimbursements, etc.

Given : This is a non-supervisory position.

Education

Required : High school graduation, or its equivalent.

Preferred : Experience

Required : Two years of bookkeeping or related experience, at least three years of adequate performance in a county auditor's office, or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Typical : Basic bookkeeping techniques; governmental accounting procedures; personnel policies and procedures; and, standard office practices. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with county employees, representatives of governmental agencies, vendors, and the general public; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; operate standard word processing and spreadsheet software; read and interpret standard policies and procedures; reconcile accounts; operate various office equipment; basic aptitude for mathematics; ability to work independently.
